I recently bought an 06 Prius with a bad engine. It sat for a month before I could work on it. When it was time to work on it I had to push it in. The ready light wouldnt come on. I changed the engine without removing the invertor or unhooking any thing on that side, I did however remove the safety plug from the Hybrid cell. I finished the engine swap & it wouldnt ready up so it would just go it neutral. I pushed the button on & off several times & it came on finally.I dont know how to diagnose this car

Did you ensure you reinstalled the safety interlock switch correctly? (See diagram below.). For some reason a lot of people seem to miss locking the plug in step 3. It will also take two start/stop cycles to get the car into ready to drive state.

In regard to diagnostics, you need to have a scan tool (and know how to interpret the DTC info) in order to ensure you don't end up doing the "replace and hope" technique repair.

Well, that is all I got, and to be honest I did not really understand your post, so made some assumptions. You said you didn't know how to diagnose the car, but then you say you have a scan tool and fully know how to use it.

Sounds like you should test the 12v battery and make sure it's not dead.

I didn't know there was a switch. I will check on that.

I did install brand new batteries in both fobs. The newer (but previously working) fob was still working but I installed a new battery anyway. The older (original, but working fob) was completely dead and so I had to replace that battery. But that was what made me wonder if the older/original fob had lost its ability to have the smart function because I had let that battery drain down too low. So the bottom line is they both have new batteries. Thanks for that idea.

Sorry lol I figured out it was my fault because I wasnt pushing the brake pedal down before I pushed the button so the"READY" light wouldnt come on & it would go in neutral instead of Reverse or Drive !!! This is my 1st experience with a hybrid. I just dont know all about it yet but I will

I saw the switch. Is it supposed to be in or out to make the smart key work?

This may be the strangest thread I've ever seen. Did a bunch of posts get deleted?

Looks like two topics are "shorted" together. ;)
