I agree, benalexe must be doing some creative math.

benalaxe - as they say in HS math class, "please show your work!"

    Here's what I come up with. .$66/12 miles = $.055/mi

If you get 50 mpg to a gallon of gas, then 50 mpg * $.055/mi = $2.75/gal equivalent.

I think what Benalexe is stating is that the $0.30 of savings to plug in is marginal.

$0.66 for 12 miles electric vs $0.96 for 12 miles on $4 gasoline.

Now if he lived in a place where there was $3 gasoline that would make sense, but I live in the same area as him (LI) and the cheapest I see is $3.75/gal, which is 36% higher than the $2.75/gal equivalent.

    Personally I like to drive.
48miles for me in summer (is < $.90) now that its cold I'm down to about 43-44 miles per charge.

Gas here is cheaper too, down to 3.25 when we filled up my wife's subaru to the ski trip this weekend. Places with cheaper gas probably have cheaper eletricity too... my net is about $.07 kWh.. (raw night rate is .05)

I remember he was having range issues though. So more like 9-10 miles rather than 12. Still cheaper than gas, but marginally so.

if he was having range issues, he might not be getting 50 mpg's either.
