    Ignoring other members

While the moderators are great at controlling trolls, flamers, and spammers, the issue of those PriusChat members whose posts always make you cringe wasn't addressed, but it's easy to fix for yourself.

Say, hypothetically, that every time you see a post from me, it turns your stomach or you think "Why hasn't that jerk been banned?". Here's how to avoid seeing my assinine raving, you only have to do it once:

Click on my name (or rather the name of the person whose presence offends you :) ) on any of my posts. From the drop-down menu, choose View Public Profile. This lets you view my profile.

Just under my name, and possibly a picture, you'll see a drop-down menu called User Lists.

Click it and at the bottom of the menu you'll see Add to Ignore List. Click it and confirm and from now on, my posts will be hidden.

You may still see my spew if someone stupidly quotes me, and if you want to see what an idiot like me might have to say on a particular thread, you can unblock my individual posts. You can even change your mind, if you decide I'm not such a creep after all, and unblock all my posts.

I know I like this feature and use it frequently. Amazingly, many of the posters on this thread are blocked. And I like that just fine.

The moderators can take care of the trolls, spammers, and flamers, and you can take care of any forlorn malcontents or wild cows ranging on PriusChat whose droppings you don't want to see.

    I hope this helps too.

A few other forums I'm on that got heavily trolled at times have switched to systems where people must register, then wait a week or two just reading messages before being allowed to post (the idea being that people with too much free time on their hands will find something else to distract them in the meantime, and will likely never return to continue their trolling).

Other options are to ban signups from public email systems like hotmail, yahoo, gmail, etc so people can only use accounts registered at their ISP (better for tracing them back).

Thankfully there havn't been enough incidents on PC to go to these measures, but they're always available if things get worse.

Funny, the very BEST, most economical way to defeat just about ANY troll, is to simply not respond.

Take it from me, I have troll genes in my blood, I know!!! :D

Very clever, Bill. Forlorn malcontents and non-domesticated bovines, indeed. Don't forget spineless, sexually-confused cephalopods.

I'm breathing a little life back into this thread because of something that just happened.

If you see spam/troll/flame, please DO NOT quote the post. Here's why:
We (Moderators) have the ability to delete a members entire catalog of posts. Not more than ten minutes ago, I did just that. A troll joined Priuschat and posted an obscene picture a total of four times in four different threads across four different forums. In the time it took me to delete just one post, I had received three more reports.

So I went into the Moderator Control Panel, entered the troll's name and clicked the [delete all member's posts] button. BAM! The remaining three were deleted all at once. My only fear was that someone had - for some reason - quoted the post so I went through and checked.

Now granted, most people would not quote an obscene picture, but I've seen flames and attacks quoted through several subsequent posts. This means that cleaning up the thread requires several touch-points and takes a while.

So please do not quote a flame/troll/spam.

Thanks for pointing that out. I didn't realize that until Evan told me about it the other night. I think you should almost make that a sticky.

I never noticed the REPORT button before. I'm glad you resurrected this thread. I also only recently became aware that there were moderators that deleted troll posts. Up until then, I had on occasion quoted and responded to a troll here or there when I was concerned that a new visitor to PriusChat might take what was said seriously.

That's a mistake I'll strive not to make again. Notice a troll, click report. Seems easy enough, I bet I can learn that faster than I learned P&G <_<

Please DO reply to the thread (just don't quote the troll) that you've already reported the post. It's a tad annoying to get 4 reports of the same post b/c everyone thinks they were the first to report it. Some of the 'old timers' are really good about posting that the thread/post has been reported, but many new folks don't realize we've been doing that. It'll just take periodic reminders as new members join.

We really do appreciate the reports though, it's tough for us to screen every single post in every single thread for inappropriate stuff, so you guys and gals are a huge help and critical to keeping this forum a friendly easy to use place.

Aww, do we really have to be mature and ignore them? I love the clever slams our members come back with!

Can I tell my joke, modified for the occasion?

Some surgeons were talking in the doctors' lounge. One said he loved to work on Germans because they were so well organized. And everything was labeled; heart, lungs, pancreas.

Another surgeon said he loved to work on the Japanese. Everything was color coded; red to red, blue to blue, green to green.

The last surgeon said he loved to work on "trolls". No heart, no guts, no brains and the mouth and a$$hole were interchangeable.
