My friend uses these ties not to prevent theft but to keep them from flying off and losing his aftermarket hubcaps. I use Sienna hubcaps on my winter tire rims, and they never come off. I ordered them on special from a US online store, free shipping, and they work perfect. Personally, I feel that a bare steel rim is ugly, although many prefer to ride without them. Theties are visible, whatever the reason for putting them on.
