Huge accident at CERN LHC!

There goes one sh!t pot full of money, time and equipment.

Wonder if these characters had any influence?

'Scientists working at CERN, the organization that runs the vast smasher, were worried about what the hackers could do because they were "one step away" from the computer control system of one of the huge detectors of the machine, a vast magnet that weighs 12,500 tons, measuring around 21 meters in length and 15 meters wide/high. If they had hacked into a second computer network, they could have turned off parts of the vast detector and, said the insider, "it is hard enough to make these things work if no one is messing with it."'"

I'd love to see the effects of a black hole up close and personal. It would almost be worth the spagettification.

And my friends made fun of me when i asked a few days ago:

"So the turned on the LHC last night... and all they have to say this morning is "well, it works"... is anyone else worried about this?"

 

I think the risk and cost to our planet will only have been worth it if there are HUGE and IMMEDIATE commercial spin-offs, like mini black holes that we can sell as a dieting aid. ;-)

 

I think dropping black-painted ping pong balls at a LHC press conference would be a cute gag. Like the balloon drop at political conventions.

 

After searching, it is a joke. Looked pretty real though, got to give them that.

At the end of your video, it was more like seeing the dark.

Pretty good special effects. Hope nothing like this really plays out.

 

I've used a tame black hole as a filing system for years.

 

Anybody remember the cartoon circa 1960's about the little guy who ran around with the briefcase that whenever he wanted he would pull out a different size "Portable Hole". He would select the size he needed and unfold it, slap it on whatever surface needed a hole , steal sometihng through a window or wall, or in an escape he would jump in and pull the hole in on itself???????

Wouldn't the center of the black hole be somewhere along the perimeter of the collider, not in the center? I'm starting to think that this photo might be a fake. :nerd:
