HV battery Kit Installers in Southern California

    I apologize if this might be out of the scope of this forum, but I’m finding few and not so good options for my tight-budget predicament.

    I basically need a place/person that’s open to replacing my HV battery modules with NPB kit or with modules from a new Gen 2 pack (as I recently discovered that was an option!).

    I already researched some of the places close to me (LA,OC), majority won’t do it while the rest would charge +$500 for this.

    Any suggestions or advice would be highly appreciated.

    P.s. I live in an apartment building, no garage, no equipments, and my car DIY skills never went beyond tire change.

    I'm curious what you would feel is a fair price to pay for this service you're looking for? $500 is about average I think for someone to take apart a battery

    Im not sure if you can use gen2 modules on newer gens but you might be able to use newer gen modules on gen2.

    Someone who knows about gen2 may chime in and give a better answer.

    The ,modules are the same from Toyota. Just the case is different. It's strange why Toyota charges more for the Gen3 pack vs Gen2. So basically you just transfer the modules from 1 pack to the other. This is the same with Camry Hybrids

    Yeah bit of a hornet's nest? Especially if you expect installer to take full responsibility, for a smooth/successful install..

    Well now that I think about it, I guess you can use gen2 modules.

    I remember my pack I got in my car when I bought it had already been replaced and had modules from 2005/2007 in it.

    My pack was older than my car at that point but now I am good with the Lithium battery from Dr. Prius.

    I'm a bit skeptical about this, 3 miles with EV on our Prius in Temple City CA? Where the heck can he go that far with speeds under 25mph?

    Anyways, good additional option. Just not sure of the claims on the site

    Yea your miles may vary as you can get 6 or more miles in EV with it.

    I need to record a video in EV mode and show how it does extend the mileage in EV

    Back to the OPs topic.

    I would be willing to help you with this swap. But what you're describing will take some time to remove and disassemble. It's not straight forward as a regular battery swap.

    You would most likely need to do this at a location other than your apartment building. Downtime would be a few hours

    Nothing yet. I wasn't in a hurry since the car continues to operate (with regular OBDII resets). The car has less than 98k miles on it so I'm assuming it's only 1 or 2 cells causing the issues. It's getting me around 35 MPG now though, and with these gas prices, I decided I had to bite the NiMH bullet.

    I'm looking at the Tustin Toyota's Gen2 battery as it seems to be the lowest price in the area ($1,847.35 w/ taxes after core charge return) and I'm able to buy it online. Only issue I'm afraid of with that option is that they'd notice the modules are from Gen 3 and would refuse to return core charge. However, since I discovered that other installers are doing in it in the area, I'm hoping that won't be an issue.

    Lol, it only takes two hours... I charge a bit under $100 to do it... It's astonishing how much people expect to pay to do very simple nuts & bolts work on a car.

    Not really back breaking work at all after you've pulled packs more than four dozen times... Takes 15 minutes to pull the pack, 45 minutes to build out the new pack, 45 minutes to install pack and put car back together and 15 minutes to a 1/2 hour for unexpected hassles. I got references of people I've done this for if you live near me...

    But they aren't gonna get out a magnifying glass and confirm the serial numbers on each of the 28 modules, so as long as they look like original modules you'll be fine.
