    I will not discuss this issue with you, since the tools needed are beyond the scope of most "do-it-yourselfers."

    It can be done, an it would be as good as a one piece cable.

    Ok - I wasn't so much interested in whether it could be done, with sufficiently esoteric tools and methods, as in whether you were advising the OP to try doing it with a butt splice and Harbor Freight crimper, without even mentioning the cable is coaxially shielded....

    Shielding probably wouldn't make a difference, anyway. Even a thin tin can would make a Faraday cage.

    Ok. On the other hand, an incompletely informed DIYer making butt splices on both legs of a floating 300 volt circuit with a grounded shield could make for some very interesting differences indeed.
