So I had got a code for inverter temperature out of range. I thought that the cooling pump had gone out, and in fact it did. I replaced it and all is fine. (Go ahead and remove the head light to access the pump... Too easy)

I say that to say this:

While I was diagnosing/wondering/learning I asked what the normal temperature range was... Specifically is 160-180f ok? What temp does it throw the code at?

With the new pump I find that up to about 135f and normally running around 105-120f is normal.

180f does not throw code, but is too high.

I'm curious what more experienced priusmasters might say to these findings?

Thats normal about 50 degrees cooler than engine temp is what I have seen but the second you shut the car off it will do a quick heat soak and quickly reach engine temp for a while just sitting there since the 2 coolant tanks ICE & INVERTER are in the same radiator. There separate but in the same case. They improved that in a G3 there in separate cases so no heat soaking.

I do not know the temp where it logs an overheat code. Probably like the engine somewhere about's 220?

I hope you replaced the inverter coolant with the new pump.

It is fairly new coolant, so no... i lost very little and added less than a half pint to fill it. Ive noticed what your referring to...

Just a note: I'm ordering and replacing the ICE coolant control valve as well...that temp is running 180-190f
