Auto needs a temperature set. I've only got the one temperature adjustment, but I think some have a L/R split. But once the temperature is set, air outlets and fan speeds are set and adjusted accordingly.

The auto button seems to have a mind of its own.

There's no FAST / ECO / NORMAL setting here - not mentioned in the handbook either. And looks like you have Dual temperature settings.

    Yours looks like this: upload_2019-11-30_13-39-25.png

    Ours looks like this: upload_2019-11-30_13-40-24.png

Yes, I guess you might NEED to get Fast Heat. Here - rarely use heater. But A/C works fine.

Not really. Its confusing as chit. I have decided though, that Auto sucks. WAY too low of fan speeds for me. When I try to use it, it has it on only 1 or 2 clicks. I'd prefer at least half or 3/4's...4 or 5 clicks.

So then the answer to the question -- for you at least -- would be, "No, it's not the best." Which helps to show that different people have different preferences, which is why we have options. ;) If I have it on auto and the fan speed is too low, I'll either bump down the temperature, which keeps it on auto, or bump up the fan speed.

It’s a European option (they have dual automatic climate control).

We just have Eco and normal.

I usually have it on Auto, but if I'm heading east on a cool (and/or rainy) evening, onto the coastal Barnet Highway, overriding mode to Heat/Defog is mandatory, and I don't think I've ever seen Auto opt for that. And of course this means (on a dark/twisty road): looking down to find the Mode button (in a row of similar buttons), and pushing it multiple times while watching the mode icons scroll, on a small LCD display. You don't want to rush either, cus if you overshoot you'll need to scroll through them all again.

Weird. I have seen AUTO go with foot/defrost.

If I'm not mistaken, mine does that when it decides to heat the cabin rather than cool it.

Maybe I'm just impatient. When the windshield starts fogging up, I'm not waiting to see what it'll do.

Yes that’s how I’ve seen it operate as well.

Whenever I encounter that, adjusting the temp about 2 degrees bumps up the fan speed.

It selected it tonight with the rain. It also stayed that way through the entire trip so there was no issue with fogged up windows.
