Hybird Battery HELL

Well that's assuming you're only going to need a battery.......

 

Maintenance of everything else is already budgeted and in the works. In 6 years, thanks to previous posts made here, I plan on doing several preventative maintenance jobs as the years roll on. Priuschat has been awesome in dispensing preventative information.

 

Atlanta Prius brags on their website that they charge higher prices for "better" rebuilds. This means by their own admission they aren't being picky about the cells they use in rebuilds.

I wouldn't trust that shop at all based on the website. The "bit low" comment cinches it.

 

That's hilarious.....if you don't want to buy our pos model we can sell you one that might work better for a while longer.

Well, all I can do is wish you the best of luck.
Hopefully the guy is honest, ethical and competent, and you will get a supported 2 year warranty, and hopefully at least 2 years of Hybrid Battery Life.

But yes, as you have discovered, you bought a "new" battery, but not a NEW battery.
I have to say, on majority, with all the stories of hardship and disappointment I've read when people have tried the "refurbished" battery route, I'm pretty sold on Go Toyota New.

It may be close to double the cost, but then I think you can expect a good 7-10 years more.....and maybe even more than that.
Go with a "Battery Specialist" who refurbishes batteries?
It's all a roll of the dice.

At this point...you are already "In" for $1850, and if $3,500 was prohibitive, I'm guessing $3,500 + $1850 loss on simply giving up on the refurbished battery is not possible or something you would want to do.

So hopefully that 2 year warranty...is supported well.
And I hope that refurbished battery works out.

On the positive side? At least initially, it sounds if the person is being supportive.

 

Nah, the HV battery was still the main problem. I notice that previously you said:

Hopefully you'll have better luck with this second replacement, but unfortunately it does seem to come down to exactly that (luck) with many of these rebuilt batteries.

 

Hybrid battery reconditioning and aged hybrid battery maintenance are not a one time event. If the battery is reconditioned once and never again, the benefit will not last. The hybrid battery has to be maintained regularly - just like the rest of the car - for the benefits to last for the long term.

 

It's really comes down to simple math. 28 modules x 6 cells per modules = 168 total cells of which 1 fails and the entire pack goes into error mode.

Putting another used pack in as a replacement will equal a high variance of results.
