Had a few issues with the appointment time with Green Bean (ended up being 7 hours later than what I was initially told) but the battery has been installed and the car is working well. Drove it 6.5 hours without any issues, and got about 50 mpg. @ericbecky said he was interested to see how their battery works long-term, so I'll post a review in a few months or so. I chatted with my home dealership today, and they said they thought the dealership in Illinois would have gotten me a junked Prius battery.

    A junked battery pack?

That makes zero sense. I can't wrap my head around that.

I guess more dollars for them when the junked one later fails.

Update. We are about 8 months in with the Green Bean battery, which continues to be performing well.

Gosh this is like owning a TDI... stealershipsand drama!

Anyway of getting a list of FL dealerships to stay away from?

I do have a local mechanic that seems very Prius aware and knows how to bleed the brakes with the computer. But I’d still like to know who to watch out for in my travels. Never have owned a Toyota in the south, and had a TDI forum trusted guy work on my Beetle.

I think the best advice is to just make sure you fully understand what you're getting for the price you're paying at any shop. I would really hope that a dealership wouldn't commit fraud by saying one thing and doing another. But I could understand them saying "we could do the repair for half off, but we'd use used parts" or something like that.

Update: Green Bean replaced the battery June 18, 2018. No issues until now.

Battery failed today around 200,000 miles. Red triangle of death showing today with P0A80 code. Car had been experiencing lower gas mileage and higher oil use.

The battery is warrantied for 5 years, so I’ve filed a claim with them to have it replaced.

So you got a year and a half out of the battery? Glad you're getting it replaced for free but time isn't free. Reinforces the notion that a refurbished battery is a crappy battery in 2020 and beyond.

So how many miles since the Used battery was installed?

I know initial post said you bought the car at 153,000 and the failure happened after having it about 3.5 months.

If I remember correctly from other threads you may have to pay the labor on this. So just a heads up in case that happens.

Hi. He Green Bean now offers a gen 2 Prius pack installed with a Lifetime warranty for under $1500 delivered and installed by mobile techs. The warranty is transferable once. Replacements under warranty are no cost to the car owner.

just purchased one, took 1 hour for the install. Conscientious tech. Did a great job. Current google reviews = 4.9 out of 5

Of course, that rating is about the purchase and install process. The quality of the battery will only be determined 6 months to 3 years down the track. I wonder if the reviewers get the chance to come back and change their reviews later if perchance they are one of the unlucky ones that have their Green Bean pack fail in under 3 years.

    I guess time will tell.
