Get an OBD2 Scanner, download Dr. Prius app and take a look at the voltage difference in the hybrid battery, if it's 1.2 V + then that is the issue. Also take a look at the inverter coolant pump and make sure it is working, if it is not working your inverter will overheat and then shut down.

I would don't think there is a need to replace the fluid asap, it would be good if replaced, but given the simplicity of these ''transmissions'' it is far less crucial to replace the ''transmission'' fluid. These are just gears that rotate with 2 electric motors.

the thread is what ... 2½ years old? The app probably dumped the car over a year ago since it had something like a ¼million miles on it.

Some progress - I've sourced an inverter via a parts dealer out of a car with 40,000 Kms on it for $700. I've also found a specialist in Hybrids (not Toyota!) who will fit it for me, so we'll see how we go. I paid Toyota for their diagnosis $500!) and got a copy of the codes.

P0A1A and P0A94 with a sub-code 172. After clearing the codes, P0A1A did not return, but P0A94 remained leading Toyota to the conclusion that the inverter had failed. I guess we'll see what the 'specialist' says when I get the car and part to him on Tuesday.

Was the inverter coolant pump of your Prius C working? if it was not maybe the inverter overheated and then failed.
