    • Leaf looks to be in the third tier, strong there

The charts, I had to increase the Y-axis scale to show the data, nice trends:

The lower part of the third tier is still weak. I like the solid growth from the CT200h and above. Of course, "in your face Consumer Reports" the market likes the 'Prius c.'

I remember when Camry Hybrid consistently sold in the 4,000➕ range.
LE hybrid is $28.5 , only SE hybrid is $31..4k (herein SF area) and XLE is typically over $34k. Too expensive! Not that I'm interested in one, just saying

Liftback was down about 15% from 10900 units last March. March_2015 is the first month so far in 2015 that Liftback+c+v fell behind last year. Of course, let's see how it goes in April.

AS pointed out, its a compliance car. To add to that, it is only sold in California and New York. Out of staters can buy it, I think, But why get a PHV sedan with tiny trunk space and the EV range of the Prius PHV when there is the Fusion Energi available.

Interesting. When I purchased my TCH in March the dealer was saying "Hybrids just aren't selling right now." Seems like a bold face lie in the face of a 2,400 up tick. LOL Glad I fought them on the trade in. They'll still make money on it as a certified car.

In fact she's already up for sale as a certified... no price though... hmmmm

About once a month, the AutoLine Daily host likes to claim:

. . . And why is it that nobody in this business seems to be aware that diesels outsell hybrids? We first reported this a year ago and yet when I mention this to people in the business, they’re stunned to learn it.

So I take the latest summary from the Hybridcars dashboard report and posted in the comments:

    Bob Wilson Says:
    April 10th, 2015 at 6:42 pm
Top 10 hybrids, plug-ins, diesels in March 2015

    9,485 – Prius hatchback
3,564 – Prius c (in your face Consumer Reports!)
    2,739 – Camry Hybrid
    2,534 – Fusion Hybrid
    2,516 – Prius v (the wagon)
    2,409 – Jetta Diesel
    2,000 – Model S (Tesla)
    1,949 – Passat Diesel
    1,817 – Leaf
    1,793 – Sonata (hybrid)

    Source: March 2015 Dashboard - HybridCars.com

Where is your list and counts?

The devil is in the details. Perhaps I should have called the 'Prius v' the 'SUV-lite' instead of 'the wagon.'

Here is the simple 2 year old explanataion
Diesel Boom? Ownership Of Diesel Cars Way Up, But Still A Fraction Of U.S. Market - Forbes
So hybrids are much more popular with US consumers (at least 2010-2012), and we have hybrid cars data for the last 28 months that says it continued.

Commercial diesel trucks and vans are more popular than consumer hybrids. Why are people surprised by autoline? Because they are comparing 2 markets that aren't alike, and pretending they are the same. we don't really have any good commercial hybrid trucks or vans, those with today's choices are better off being diesel, or cng, or lng. Autoline is making a false and misleading comparison.

IMHO its going to take phevs and getting hybrid or phev drive trains into more trucks, CUVs, SUVs, and minivans to save more oil than the commercial diesel does. I expect it will take less than 5 years given the 2025 cafe standards.

The incentives may be helping...as well as the end of a string of lousy winter weather for much of the country.

I'm part of the list because of 0% financing plus the rebates.

I just rented a 2015 Corolla S Premium this afternoon, drove it for two hours and turned it in with 41.6 MPG on the gage (yes, I reset it prior).
I just looked up the sticker price with destination for this car - $23,780 ....

this Corolla has sunroof, Softex seats, 8 way power driver seat. push button start, Smart Key, HD radio, 17" alloy wheels, nicely bolstered front seats, right up to the shoulders. It has a CVT with sport mode and manual shift option.

Wow does Toyota have a challenge with the 4th gen Prius. IMO, it needs to be a MUCH better car for less money. Piercey Toyota confirmed liftback is not selling so hot now and the manager said, "of course, because of low gas prices".

In 1993, I drove our 1991 Camry to Tuscaloosa and got 40 MPG. Realistically, we need to look at all trips, not a single instance. A good start is Fuel Economy:
    comb city highway model
    1 35 30 42 Corolla ECO 1.8L
    2 50 51 48 Prius hatch 1.8L

From THE PRIUS THAT SHOOK THE WORLD HOW TOYOTA DEVELOPED THE WORLD.doc:

. . . .Toyota Chairman Eiji Toyoda (now Honorary Chairman) repeatedly expressed his sense of crisis at every chance. At the regular Board meetings he would ask, "Should we continue building cars as we have been doing? Can we really survive in the 21st century with the type of R&D that we are doing now?" The new models being introduced by auto makers during the bubble economy period had grown fancier and larger, loaded with excessive features and accessories. Toyota had applied its best technology towards developing sedans that could compete with the top luxury cars of the world such as Mercedes-Benz and BMW, and that had culminated in the introduction of the Celsior. With every model change, other Toyota models, such as Mark II, Corona, and Corolla, had become more luxurious. Corolla, which initially had been designed as a popular sub-compact car, now cost close to two million yen, and was nicknamed "mini- Celsior" due to its long list of features and accessories, as well as its exterior design.
