Which is what your first photo showed. Salt from seawater brine was a San Francisco industry for decades, going back to the mid 1800's.

Getting lithium from such a source may be technically feasible, but we got plenty available through cheaper sources.

Scary headlines go on about lithium, but the mineral to be concerned with is cobalt. two thirds of it comes from the Congo, which has political and human's rights issues, but the industry is working on reducing the amount needed.

"Over the last six years, Tesla and Panasonic [which supplies batteries to Tesla] have reduced cobalt dependency by about 60 percent already."
Elon Musk wants cobalt out of his batteries — here’s why that’s a challenge - The Verge
Panasonic is working on cobalt free batteries.
Panasonic plans to develop cobalt-free car batteries - Reuters
And researchers have already developed ones that are, but aren't ready for automotive use.

Cobalt is probably also in seawater, but then so is gold.

I was thinking more like a Holden/Vauxhall VXR8 Maloo. That Mighty Boy should have a license plate that reads "DROPBEAR".

There is no lithium in seawater. No matter what technology is employed.

It's there - but insignificant traces - not worth trying to extract.

The video I linked was better - ex-F1 driver (and host of Fifth Gear) Tiff Needell giving some serious competition to supercars on a racetrack in a Maloo.

Might as well extract the gold while you're at it. (For those who don't get the reference, the Nazis/Fritz Haber famously tried this)

Yep - not worth it - but it is there.

The 5th Gear video was great!! Be interesting on slicks - not sure the Lambo would have taken him as easily.

They do race them here "V8Utes" - or did till they stopped making them when FORD and HOLDEN factories closed down. Now they race Japanese trucks (mostly made in Thailand).

Mad Max was a bit of a shock to those of us who endured them as cars.

We had them as work vehicles at the time - they were awful to drive, chewed through the petrol. The ones we had were Panel Vans or Utes:
