I have purchased a 2005 Prius with a Hymotion plugin added to it.
I beleive I am having issues with the regular Pius battery.
The battery fan turns on within about a minute of turning the car on.
sitting in park, the battery goes to full bars(fairly quickly), if I drive forward about 10 ft, the bars drop by 3.
Then they climb back up quickly if back in park.
If I drive any distance(1 to 2 km), the battery gets disabled and I have to limp home.
I have the red triangle and a check engine light on.
When I use the torque pro app set for prius gen 2, it says it doesn't see any errors in the mcu.
I am wondering if the hymotion setup disables my ability to read codes?
Would it be easy to temporarily disconnect the hymotion, while testing the regular battery.
I hope someone has knowdege of this system.

    Thanks

Insert the bypass plug in the Hymotion system.
Near the back, driver side of the pack.
Follow the wires and you will usually find it zip tied to the wiring harness.

    Sorry if it wasn't clear.
I have Hymotion systems here at my shop.
I have installed, removed, and repaired Hymotion systems.
I am able to assist people with their systems. But I am very realistic about what is or is not possible.

I was able to disable the hymotion and insert the bypass plug.
Now I am able to get Torque pro check engine readings.
I reset the codes, partly hoping they would clear(but that would probably indicate a hymotion issue)
Well the fan quit running and all cleared.
I shut the car off and when I started it again I have the p0a80 error.
I will do more analysis on the stock battery and report back when I can connect the hymotion again.
I am hopefull the hymotion is in good shape, but time will tell.
Too bad I can't get the tourque pro readings with the hymotion in the loop.
Its nice to see the voltages of all the module pairs

So are there any outliers when you look at the module pairs?

pair 2 was at 13.5 ish and all the others were at 17.5 ish.
I am hopefull that I can remove the cover and just charge up the 2nd pair with a hobbie charger.
If not I guess I will need to replace them.

    Sounds bad.
Nominal voltage is 7.2v per module.
See which of the block pair is bad. It may even have a shorted cell in it.

Removed the stock prius battery today.
While I was doing this, I noticed 2 items connected to the hymotion.
one is a v2green box and the other is a Raven-e box.
this attaches to an antenea on the car.
The car was previously owned by the local hydro company, I suspect these units were to monitor the amount of energy used to charge the car.
I am just wondering if it is an extra, or something that would have normally been with the hymotion?
If its an extra, I guess, I could just not reinstall it when putting the battery back in.
It had wires going through the back side moulding and had to be removed.

PS, all modules had a voltage of 8.25 +- .01 v - pretty good I think, except the ones in bank 2. they are 6.88, think I will test the 2 with a hobbie charger, but suspect they are bad.

Don't think I will even test them, when I removed them, they were swollen a bit, hard to remove.

jgfinley, don't start discussing the same problem in multiple threads. Just stick to the thread you have already going in the technical section.

PS, It is also considered poor forum etiquette to hijack another poster's thread more so when the post is off the topic of the thread.

I'd be interested in the v2green box and antenna for fun.
It's more of historical item at this point. Contact me via email or phone to chat.

I completed the rebuild and tested the stock battery.
I have connected the hymotion again and I was able to drive in EV mod as long as I stayed below 55 km/h(33mph) under moderate load. Under decelleration the motor appeared to shut off.
The battery screen flashes between the stock pack voltage and the hymotion pack.
If I turn off EV mode, the screen just shows the stock battery.
I charged the pack up and used a killawatt meter to calculate kwh on charge.
It took 1.3 kwh to charge. It appeared to take approx 9 amps while charging and dropped to .25 amps after charged.
All readings were with the killawatt meter on the 110v A/C side.
I guess I am lucky and the hymotion is still in good shape.
I will see how it responds to driving to and from work .

I sucessfuly removed the v2green box and the raven-e boxes.
They didn't appear to have any effect in charging, I suspect it was just for sending info to a server for stats.
I decided to test the torque pro with the hymotion connected.
It shows my battery voltages and temp still.
I am not sure if it did before, but it does now.
I will have to wait for a check engine code to see if it still doesn't show it(hope I have to wait a real long time though).
I suspect the v2green box was loading down some signals and with it gone I have visability again.

I will check the internet to find a hymotion manual. I notice it gives different beep codes while driving.
around 55 km it beeps 3 times and shortly there after the engine starts to help with power.
I suspect it is beeping, so I can reduce my acceleration to stay in EV mode.
If anyone has a link to a manual, I would appreciate it

It is just beeping to signal that it has gone out of EV mode.
