I pose this question in light of the new HPV mandated vaccine issue in Texas. To me IF it's safe, it's a no brainer. Vaccinate everyone with the option to opt(like all vaccines). The opponents are again the religious zealots who claim that if you give this vaccination, it will lead to the moral decay of kids having more sex. I disagree. Kids are already having as much sex as they can. They do it without regard of cervical cancer 20 or 30 years down the line. I think that argument is a non starter. If you think your kid is going to hump more after they get 3 shots in the butt, then your kid is probably dumb as hell.

So the question I posed was more hyperpole than anything. A HIV vaccine is certainly more 'glamorous' than a HPV vaccine. So to me(and I think to a majority), an HIV vaccine that 'hypothetically' is perfectly safe and effective, is a no brainer. Kids having more sex after it, I think is also a no brainer. If your kid is going to have more sex after this vaccine, then they probably need it to protect them from their stupidity in the first place.

If the statement came off as gay insulting, I apologize as that was not my intent.

If the vaccine offered this side-effect, the vaccine would be co promoted by the makers of viagra, cialis and levitra.

I didn't think so, based upon your previous posts...I think I'm basically hyper-sensitive when issues of human sexuality are twisted to prove a political/moral point...especially in an effort to refute the obvious health benefits (hypothetical or otherwise).

    Thank you.

    I do not know~

Maybe it's just me, I have always had a germ phobia. I concider persons with contagous STDs as tainted meat so to speak, if you are planning on sleeping with them.(as platonic friends they are fine)
I have had friends that caught Herpes on thier groin area while wearing a condom, they didnt get it on the covered area but caught it via a busted blister in the pubic hair area of the partner. This has caused me to be very choosy of who I sleep with. Or another female friend that caught an STD from recieving oral because the guy had an open blister in mouth.. :(

I have read the studies and found that you can catch STDs elsewere even if your wearing a wrapper....
There was a study done as to how many female & male teens had HIV or a STD and they dont tell their partner for fear of being shunned. Thats just wrong they need to be honest and tell the partner before things go to far and let them make the choice themselves instead of SUPRISE guess what you've got now! :D ......!

I have had a cpl of near misses, good thing I looked before going mining.. ;)

At least the iformation is out there if you search for it..... :)

You cannot remove the risk of getting a virus from our lives. You'd need a thousand vaccinations a year. Where does it stop? If a virus kills 10 people do we mandate the vaccine? 100? 1000? What is the cut off? Remember, there are an infinte numer of viruses with a vast range of seriousness/spreadability.

Regarding HIV, it mutates rapidly. Today's (hypothetical) vaccine would be (hypothetically) useless in a few years. Vaccinations themselves have risks of side effects. More vaccinations = higher risks. If you take enough of them, you could have a higher risk from them the the disease you're trying defend.

The pharmaceutical industry has little incentive to find a vaccine for AIDS.
They make plenty on treatments so why find a cure?
    Treatments are more profitable.
Would the oil companies research a car that would run on water?

"Oh....won't somebody think of the children!" -Mrs. Lovejoy

Do your children wear helmets wherever they go? Why don't you wrap them in bubblewrap and tie them to the couch so no one can hurt them?

Overprotecting a child is just as dangerous as underprotecting them. You can't shelter them completely and then send them off to college. These are the kids in college that get in serious trouble with alcohol, drugs, and unprotected sex.
