I am a Prius Newbie

Hey folks, long time lurker hereâ€¦and I wanted to jump in and say I bought a Prius.

I am picking up a Black 2007 Prius (regular) with package 6 (NW). This is actually my very first brand new car after 20-years of driving (always had slightly â€˜previously ownedâ€™ Hondas) so as you can imagine, I am quite excited. Thanks to the Seattle area folks who pointed me to Kirkland Toyota. I wonâ€™t be picking it up until Friday 1/12 since I have to leave for CES in Vegas this weekend, and did not want to rush the honeymoon so to speak. I have spend a great deal of time going through many of the threads here, and Iâ€™ve used the search function extensively, but I still have some questions that I have not found the answers to (and forgot to test at the dealership). Apologies in advance, but here are the questions I have that some of you may know the answer to:

1) I have the pre-delivery check list, but where (if any) have people run into problems? Or where should I pay special attention to?
2) I wanted to get the glass breakage sensor added to the car, but my salesman was told by his service dept. that you canâ€™t add that sensor to this package level. Huh? Isnâ€™t it just a microphone that you plug into the carâ€™s anti theft unit?
3) Headlights: Will they stay on for a period of time when I get out of the car and then automatically shut off say 30 seconds later after I get into the house?

4) Satellite Radio: Iâ€™d love to get itâ€¦but whatâ€™s the deal with the 10 or 16 character limit on the display? Is this depended on the satellite unit you get? The version of software in the car? Both? Neither? One a side note, how hard can it be to make that data scroll? I mean really.

5) The wife is kind put off by the no lockable compartments issue. (Yes, never leave anything you donâ€™t want stolen in the car..I know) Has anyone found a suitable aftermarket solution other then â€˜hidingâ€™ things in the center console front facing drawer?
6) Any tips on window tinting?
7) EV Mode: Other then Coastaltech, who sound like a nightmare to deal with, were can I get a nice easy solution to add this? I donâ€™t want to clip wires if I donâ€™t have to.
8) Nav System: I Understand itâ€™s DVD basedâ€¦.but where is the DVD drive?
9) Has anyone used the T-Mobile Dash w/ a Prius? Any ideas if all the cool phone book stuff works?
10) When I bring the car in for service, do they regularly upgrade the vehicle software ? (I am hoping theyâ€™ll add scrolling to the Satellite radio issue...or should I give up on that windmill?)

BONUS Question for existing Prius owners: What are the one or two things that you would do different if you could do it all over again? (when you took delivery of your vehicle or in the first three months?) In other words, what wisdom can you impart on me, a new Prius owner? What accessories would you add immediately if you had the chance to do it all again?

Welcome to our forum. I can only comment on #s 5 & 6. Don't leave anything of value in any car. That's foolish. Otherwise, put things anywhere in the car you think a crook might not look if he/she is in a hurry. #6- I had all my windows tinted with legal film EXCEPT the lower back window. You need to see out ot that one and if you're like me i use my rear view mirror. I had the front doors tinted with the lightest-(Legal) tint, and all the rest with the middle grade-(Not limo). I have an '06 black prius-pkg. 1 and love it! Good luck.

It seems nobody answered 3-a, which is the easiest - yes. No horn honk or chirp. One flash for lock, two for unlock. If you unlock and don't enter within a certain amount of time it relocks. You can probably add a honk if you want in one of the menus, I think I saw it in the manual somewhere.

Perhaps it is related to the Smart Key (which I have), but mine chirps once when I lock the car and twice when I unlock. The car uses the horn for panic or to sound the alarm. This was set from the factory, AFAIK.

The car does not flash the headlights; rather it flashes the parking lights (amber) once or twice respectively.
