    I understand the normal routine-late-night dual charge times don't matter, but if you got home in the afternoon near empty, and wanted to head out somewhere else relatively quick (say 90minutes), the dual charger would seemingly become quite handy - maybe get you w/in range of a supercharger ... iduno

    Nothing is impossible, but the mental gymnastics needed to create such an unlikely event, in our case at least, are extremely unlikely.
    The most I have driven in a single day (unless on a trip) was 180 miles. And that was all day, certainly ot by lunchtime.

    Just an update. I got my first electric bill. It came out to $2.43 which is the monthly service charge. The utility company owes me 331 kWh of electricity which is worth about $60.

    Looking forward to Aug which should produce slightly less.

    Edit: My last July bill was $170 and average temp was 77 deg F for both year for July.

    I can't speak for PSE&G, but at the end of the year Southern California Edison sends me a rebate check for 85% of the retail rate that I over-generate or a bill for the full amount that I under-generated.

    The second month electric bill was $2.43. Total cumulative credit on my account is now -644 kWh (worth $116).

    The total utility bill (gas + electric) was $21.83.

    Last month's Prius gasoline fill up was about $17.

    I love it. :)

    Well, quick report on the Tesla Model S' effect on our power consumption. We've quickly gone into "Tier 4" territory in SCE land, and accumulated an August tab of $240. (This will be offset by other months with net generation, hopefully). As of Wednesday, we are on a pilot program that will subtract nighttime EV charging from total household consumption and be billed at $.11/kWh instead of $.31/kWh in Tier 4.

    It's also been incredibly hot and humid in coastal SoCal, so A/C use has also contributed to using a lot more net power than we'd ever seen since installing solar.

    That's a huge difference. If someone doesn't have a solar system, a home battery storage system (to shift into different Tier) may make sense.

    Your experience pretty much parallels mine in California. I LOVE $2 a month electric bills! However, I do spend about $25 per month on gasoline because of $3+/gal. fuel cost. What's not to like?
    Here in California, Edison pays back about 85% of the retail rate for overproduction. I am okay with that because I am using the grid.

    The cost of electricity would be the major driving force. The value of generator functionality would contribute also.

    It doesn't make sense for me. I will stay grid tied with my PiP as my home generator.

    My 3rd month electric remains the same, though the excess amount (180 kWh) has decreased. The cumulative excess is now 824 kWh.

    I think October will pretty much even out and I won't have any more excess electricity. In November, I'll start pulling from the grid to use up the excess.

    A lot more thanks to the hot summer days we had have.
    The Energi does consume a bit more but not to be a big amount.

    We had a few very cold days and I have yet to turn on the natural gas boiler. We have been using the heat pumps for the house. One of the day that dropped below freezing, consumed about 70 kWh in a day! Interior temp was 72 deg F during the day and 65 F at night (except upstair bedrooms @ 72 F).

    Even with that, this month's generation has 49 kWh excess! The billing period ends this Friday so I look like I'll have excess this month again. I estimate cumulative of 900 kWh (up from 824 kWh last month).

    I could blow all that in November with the heat pump.

    yep - welcome to our world albeit via high temps. Our fall temps have peaked the 90's quite frequently ... add to that - "she-who-must-be-obeyed" has entered menopause/hot flashes ... so bed time temps are suddenly needing to be a frosty 72 degrees. Couple that mix with shorter & shorter days (lower pv production) heading into winter - we may likely be kissing much of our solar surplus good bye.
