Best part about those rotary engines was you could easily redline them and not even tell because the vibration of max RPM was barely noticeable... Makes me wonder how many RX-7 owners of long ago are enjoying the quiet of their Prius these days?

I thought you had to keep a quart of oil in the car with the rotary engines. I heard they drank a quart or two every 5K of driving. Very impressive technology. On a side note Toyota is bringing back the Supra either as a 2019 model or 2020 model.

Not exactly. They had huge oil pans and sprayed some of that oil into the fuel and at least in the 13b engine some on the surface of the rotor chamber. Mine had a low oil level warning light. I never set it off. I do remember backing up one time and hearing this buzzer. Looked at the Tachometer and it was at 12,000 rpm. The car had an over limit buzzer.

The RX-7's that I really liked were the 1993 and later models. I guess that was the wankel rotary engine I was referring to. The earlier RX-7's you were referring to remind me of the Datsun 240z aka Nissan 280z.

Same engine but I think those are the 3rd gen models. Some of those had twin turbos. 1985 was the last year of the 1st gen.

You could have “died today”. Possibly even worse severely injured and in excruciating pain the rest of your life. Cup is half full, not half empty.....

If you can walk away from an accident with no injuries your cup is 100% full, not half full. Nothing is more important than your health.

I'm glad you are okay. If the car is not, at least you know you can get some money back from the HV battery. Honestly, it could be a great parts car for your next G2.

I left messages all day trying to get ahold of someone in the insurance company but no luck today. The person assigned to my case is out of town until Monday. VERY UNHAPPY!

On the assumption that my Gloria is totaled, I've been browsing Craigslist, and have found 2, a 2009 Touring and a 2010 Prius V I really like. Both are reasonably priced but the 2010 has better mileage. Won't be able to do anything til Insurance finally gets in touch, though.

That's not as bad as I thought, by far. Still, older Prius with lower value, who knows.

The 2010 V would be sweet, assuming it's in good shape. That's basically what we have, but doesn't have some of the electronics per the US V, no radar cruise, automatic braking, that sort of stuff.

We had a similar accident, T-boned by a left turner. It was repaired, and just in the last few months the car was traded-in, for next to scrap value (multiple issues: transmission, hybrid battery, coolant pump, engine mount). The repair bill for that was roughly $8700 CDN. They used some salvaged suspension components, and the front/left rim was remachined, planed down. The doors were replaced, but never really closed without extra effort, post repair. And this was 9 years back.

Keep in mind my 09 has a new traction battery, 12V battery, new tires, new HID headlights, new ballast, and all new LED lighting on the interior, as well as ultra bright reverse lights since I drive a considerable amount at night.

The 2010 I'm looking at has a solar roof, sunroof, custom paint, chrome alloy rims, and a perfect interior, so I think it will be perfect if still available. The shop I took it to is the same guy I bought it from, and he has a lot of prius experience, so I tend to trust him on the level of damage, though I am still waiting for the insurance company to come through. I'm losing a LOT of money every day I am unable to work.
