In heavy, early morning traffic today while glancing at the chrome bumper of the truck behind me I discovered the Prius brake lights do not illuminate during slow-going stop and go traffic. I can come to a complete, slow stop during this scenario without any brake lights engaging at all. I'm assuming this is due to the regen brake system setup?
This bothers me, and I'm concerned this increases probability of getting rear ended.
Is there a mod to get the lights to engage upon the slightest tap?

You can and you should adjust the brake light switch. Easy to do. There is a great thread on how to adjust... will look for it.

    [edit] this thread will do...

    or better yet this thread.

Aye, get that sucker adjusted pronto! :)

I've checked this on my GenII and the lights come on with even the slightest braking pressure.

This is a very good post and something everyone reading it should check on their own cars ASAP. Thanks for posting it.

Thank you for posting those links spiderman; I truly appreciate it!
I'm glad there's a fairly simple solution. I was worried this was going to be a non-fixable problem, especially with our teen son about to start driving next year.

The same switch is used to disengage cruise control, which gives you another good reason to get it adjusted.
