    AWG18 is OK for 10A up to 50', so it's perfectly fine for this use. One thing you might consider is using a power plug/receptacle pair like they use in computer power supplies:
    The male receptacle could be hard-mounted somewhere on the car, and a standard computer power cord used to plug in. There may be standard NEMA 5-15 connectors to do the same thing, but I haven't found the male receptacle anywhere.
