I bought the regular Prius in 2011. Then, I hand it down to my wife when I bought the PIP 2012 last month. My wife only commutes 15 miles every day, so one full tank on the regular Prius will last her forever. I need to commute 70 miles on the busy 101 every day. The 13 miles EV does not help me much, but the car pool lane sticker does. I am so happy with my purchases, but people say I am so boring. They keep saying there are more better EV/Plugin cars coming out. In fact, none of the other hybrid cars have better MPG than Prius. I do not like EV with the range limit, and I can't afford the Tesla S with 300 miles. Prius is my only choice. Recently, people have been talking Ford C-MAX hybrid, and Plugin. Consumer Reports reviews the hybrid model, and they do not agree with the manufacturer's MPG data. Obviously, Prius is still the best. Hey, to all my friends, I do not mind to be a boring person :)

Lol. I was thinking the same thing so we bought a Corolla for wife instead of another Prius. :)

Haha, one more point I miss. With 2 almost identical cars, there is no learning for my wife. I am sick of being domestic tech support.

If you never bought a car/computer/etc. because there was a rumor that a better one was coming out 'Real Soon Now', you would never buy one at all. Every product is 'perfect' until they actually make one. Volts got 230 MPG before they were made. Bulldozer was going to bury Sandy Bridge, etc. You can't buy a non-existent product.

The first time I realized I was a boring person I was on a jury that convicted on 6 counts of sexual seduction of a minor (Statutory Rape in some jurisdictions) and acquitted on two counts of child pornography. (It is not enough to aim a camera at them, there must be an image made) Once the trial was over, I found that the defendant was already serving time for DWI Manslaughter, and it occurred to me my life was boring.

    And boring is good.

(DWI is Driving While Intoxicated, some jurisdictions, DUI Driving Under the Influence)

Volt is a EV-40 it gets about 40 miles of EV than the rest is Hybrid. You will get the Carb sticker also. No worries the PIP is a good solid car and you will get hom sooner to be with the wife and yes your lower co2 emissions is saving the planet and the high MPG is saving your wallet to allocate that $ to exciting things like paint ball wars or trips to Vegas

I am not sure if I save any money. I may just paid the gas money ahead of time because the Prius is more expensive. Yes, you are right, the lower co2 emissions just makes me feel a lot better. I really like the engine that shuts down when I stop in the traffic. Especially, there is always a jam when I drive by the Microsoft and Google campus on 101, my Prius just runs on EV mode with 15 MPH.

Boring is good!!! Great MPGs, roomy interior, good purchase price, and dependability. Also being a "boring" car, makes it harder for car thieves to steal. Where is the market for "boring" cars? There is none.

Sitting in stop and go traffic next to a Tesla, who's boring now?;)

A Prius is the only "boring" car you'll see movie stars drive to the academy awards... So maybe that makes 'em less boring than other boring cars?

If you are boring you are in a hot club- For starters, Emily Blunt, heavy-hitters Cameron Diaz, Julianne Moore, Emily Deschanel and Demi Moore all own one. Others include Sophie Monk, british actress Carey Mulligan, Natalie Portman, Miley Cyrus, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Julia Roberts, Jennifer Aniston, Selma Hayek and Ally McBeal's Calista Flockhart.

Your right the savings from seling the PIP and buying a volt is not worth the extra money. If your able to charge at the office you can make the entire commute in EV mode with the volt. The Pip is costing you a gallon of gas perhaps $3.70 a day. Maybe $80 a month.

Perhaps the single biggest reason to purchase a car is you like it. Than the rest just builds from there. The rumor is the Gen 4 Prius to be released in 2015 will have a EV-40 version in the lineup and at a reasonable price. That is about the sweet spot for me on trade in value 3 years.

I don't know if I hate my PiP. But I definitely do not like it. It's slow. It's ugly. It's expensive compared to a Civic LX I had. I will never make up the premium a PiP commands over a Civic unless gas gets to some $10 a gallon. Electricity costs more than gas for me towards the end of the month when PG&E puts me in tier 3. The car rattles and wind noise is louder than my Civic. And yes, everyone calls me boring at work.

But you know, I still bought the right car. I may not like the ride but I am smiling wide as I pass everyone in the HOV lanes and the gas station. The Volt has only 4 seats. Full EV's have distance limitations except the Tesla S which you can't buy even if you have the money with it's slow production rate. Accord & Fusion PHEV have tiny trunk space. That leaves only the C-Max PHEV and it wasn't available two months ago when I purchased my PiP. And according to Consumer Reports, the better ride and less boring attribute subtracts a much larger fuel penalty than its alleged 47 mpg. I think we made the Hobson's choice boring as it may seem.

Humm... That's good to know. Wonder what the competition will be then. It's gonna take something pretty impressive to prey me from the prius.... A Tesla would do, but that's a whole different class.
Plus spending that much money, I would really like to not relax when I go one a long trip rather than sweat finding recharge stations and spending time charging.
The prius is still king of the road cars for now for an all around car with the exception of "off road of course".

I don't like bouncing back and forth between cars from work to pleasure.
I get all my stuff, sound system, and navigation programming etc how I want it in "one" car and so get used to it.

A prius ev-40 is what I was hoping for now. Seems the horses are neck and neck with the favored still barely ahead.

Competition could be interesting by the time 2 more years roll by.

The civic is a different animal.
In most cases, you decide to either pay Toyota or Exxon... Or have less luxury... Take your pick!

Not sure what your used to, but I run mine In power mode all the time.. Makes the pedal more responsive... It keeps up with anything that's ever challenged me.

It's quicker than my jeep Cherokee for sure!

Beauty is on the eye of the beholder, it's not a roadster for sure.

On the other hand, it used to be laughed at, but now almost every car maker that is striving for high mileage has copied it.
So many other cars look like the prius now.

I have 3 prius's and I don't know how many times I've had to do the double take on the freeway as I thought I saw a prius, but it was something else...

Physics come into play with wind resistance.
I agree they could be creative to change the lines but that too is risky.
Avid prius followers often don't take change well or anybody for that matter.

When you grow to love something you don't want it changed.

When gen 3 came out I can't count how many gripe threads popped up because of the changes.

I personally feel the inside where I live is most critical. I usually like change sobi feel I hit an upgrade and a change of scenery.

But remember Japanese taste is way different than ours.... There its a status symbol to be seen in a minivan!
It means your a rich executive!

If I had to rank the cars on the ability to attract a female, the Civic ranks at the bottom of the list with the Volt not far ahead. Believe it or not the PIP attracts quality babes. The Tesla may beat the PIP but it may be a long wait to gat the car.

My BMW can attract a gold digger from miles around but not the quality your looking for.
