I just drove 1043 miles from Florida to Ohio on stretched 215/35R18. Ask me anything.

I run the tire pressure at 42 front 40 rear in my 2016 Touring 4. I have been quite pleased. Any thoughts?

40 is INSANELY hard. i find that theres a nice (relative) sweet spot between 32 - 36 potholes at 40psi shorten my life from stress.

also, 71 N through Cincinnati is a mess. its like driving on a giant whack-a-mole board. Except the holes swallow your car.

Interesting. I have not found it stressful or providing a harsh ride. On my last Prius the tires were good for 70k miles running at the above pressures. I check them every two weeks or so. I am still averaging around 60 mpg even with the colder temperatures in Chicago.

bet you ain't riding on stretched 35's either.

OP, if you put normal width tires on reasonable sized wheels, you'd get better mpg and a better ride even with 40 psi. a good set of 16 or 17" rims w/ quality tires looks and handles great. stretched tires might impress ricers, but not gonna impress drivers.

Let's see a picture of the stretched shoes. I am curious.

I have stock tires. And I run 'em hard (40 psi). But I am 95% of the time on the I-10 east of Riverside, CA. It's as smooth as a dolphin's back.

I hate to admit it but the wheels look good. not stretched to an idiotic degree. but every time I drove a car with tires like that, it rode like a Conestoga wagon.

Heh, try driving a Hummer H2. Maybe it's not so bad now but years ago I swapped vehicles with a buddy for a week and I was driving his H2. So much (IMO unjustified) hate for that vehicle.

As for the Prius hate.... IMO, and sorry this is going to completely derail your thread, but IMO just look at the politics of this board. Prius drivers are seen as very vocal holier than thou individuals who try to force their views into policies that impact other people's lives. Judging by just this forum alone I would say that stereotype is often correct. I very rarely catch grief in my Gen 4, but I think it's because the design is different enough (I call it "not so damn butt ugly") that it's not quickly recognized as a Prius. If the flying of the bird annoys you, trying putting a prominent NRA sticker on it and wear hunters orange during hunting season.
