I keep my Prius c on 24/7 due to bad 12v aux battery. Any comments?

    Because my 12v aux is bad, I have been keeping my Prius c on continuously by locking the doors with my key. About twice an hour the ICE comes on for about a minute then shuts off. Except for the dash lights being on, you would never know the car is running. I think that since the Prius c computer is always on anyway, it it better to leave it running 24/7 instead of jump starting it each time until I replace the $500 12v aux battery. Any comments (and a source for a cheap 12v battery) would be appreciated.

    That battery comes up as part number 2880021181 for $235. I'm sure it's going to cost something to get one out to the island, but...?

    NO.....for several reasons.
    If it is inside, there might be a carbon monoxide problem.
    If it is outside, a simple window breakage and someone could drive it off.
    What if something fails while it is unattended and the engine runs ??
    If it stalls out while going down the road.......then what ?? And it is likely to do that when the battery gets REALLY bad.

    Call every auto parts store near you.....and the Toyota dealer.
    Where did you get that $500 figure ??

    A large lawnmower battery can be had for less than $100 that will get you buy for a few weeks and would be better than what you are doing now.

    I got a 12V battery from Pep Boys for $170 installed on sale. It was a Bosch.

    Good luck.

    Mahalo Leadfoot. I looked up part #2880021181 and yes it seems to be for the Prius c. On Monday, I need to check with my local dealer in Hawaii to see if I can get it from him. If I (he) can get it, then I will definitely get it done. The other stores do NOT have the Prius c battery when I checked. I wish to keep good relations with my dealer here because Toyota has always been good to me so even at a premium I will go with the dealer. But the $500 originally quoted to me was excessive. Tomorrow I will contact them here with this part number. If they can get it this problem is solved.
