    maybe if you stop posting every time your engine comes on, peeps will stop speculating why. after all, there is a reason (at least one) why your prime came with an engine.;)

    Mine came on tonight while driving home with 3.3 miles left in EV only mode. The really weird thing is every time in the past was that the "EV Mode" on the dash changed to "HV Mode," as expected. But the dash kept showing "EV Mode" as the gas engine was on.

    I get that it was cold enough (32 F) for the EV Guess-o-meter to be wrong. The one mile drive home started with 5.5 guess-o-meter miles remaining. ICE went on and stayed on a half mile into that one mile drive, even with the EV guess at 3.5 miles and 6% battery. Just don't know why the display didn't change to HV.

    Is display staying on EV normal when the ICE starts and remains on?

    Maybe the prius prime stays in ev mode while ice warms up. Also might start early when it is cold out.

    Could be. Gets colder every day now. Still learning. By spring, I should have all this sorted out. But right now, four months into the Prime, I'm still a rookie.

    Hey my ICE turned on when the speedo hit 90 and I hit the PWR mode to get some more speed. I still had ~15 EV miles left. I wonder why?

    The ICE is supposed to turn on when you exceed 84mph, even if you were in EV mode.

    Here's the problem.

    I've left my Prime out in the snow at work (~25F), not on charge all day, come out and driven home (at 55mph) without the ICE starting.

    more power to you. Mine kicks in when the temperature reaches 46F or below. The variables between your situation and mine are different, in my situation ICE kicks in around 46 F
