ICE comes on anyway

How does that temperature supposed to effect engine maintenance mode when it comes on for the lack of use of the ICE? Should be able to keep the engine from running for 3 months or more by keeping the parameters set to prevent the ICE from running for any temperature above 14 degrees. Should be able to test for engine maintenance mode for any time of the year.

i think we're confusing engine maintenance mode, and ppg's problem with the ice firing early in his commute on cold days.

 

this is strange, because the 200 mile interval has been mentioned quite a few times on priuschat. i think lee jay posted the o/m page, but not sure. the pip fires very 124 miles. it's to move gas through the engine before it gets stale and clogs something.

 

No, I've never found a written reference to that. One of the others heard it from Toyota (Japan, maybe?) and mentioned it here.

Because of the lack of a written reference, I can't confirm that it's true.

I have driven with no ICE on, which I can tell if it is running, and no change in my gas miles to empty on the dash, which backs up my claim. I personally haven't experienced the "engine maintenance mode", which is when the engine spontaneously starts because of the lack of running. I have experienced the ICE coming on being out of the parameters of keeping it in EV only. I am going to try my best to try to go months without purposely using the ICE to see if there is a such thing as a "engine maintenance mode" on the Prime. We will see.

that would be great. i don't like the feature, but understand why mfg.'s don't want to deal with problems of people who want to use their phev as a bev.

 

Cold weather should not trigger the ICE

 

In your car. In others', it's not. I still suspect a fault.

 

@priuscatprimeguy reported the same occurrence at the same place with his two PiPs also.
I suspect starting the ICE to prevent regeneration of a full battery.

 

Seems like that bridge has been crossed.

 

They do, only they do not start driving from your home on your route.

 

More than enough. The thermal time constant is on the order of an hour.
