ICE comes on when Stopped -- yet monitor shows it's OFF

    If you're warning up the engine, it's probably (95% of the time) because you're about to drive somewhere. Might as well use the extra battery power for that. The other 5% of the time is short trips, but for those you might shut it off at any point in the warm up cycle, even before it has time to waste excess energy.

    The systems behavior in regards to battery capacity doesn't just apply to warm up, and it generally does put the charge over the upper limit to propulsion, but not having the battery needing early replacement is a goal, so there are times the car will throw away excess energy.

    Honda made more use of the batteries in the Civic and first Insight, and we all know how that turned out.
