Maybe that was the problem. Should have used charge mode.

car was pretty, in and out. my wife liked it a lot.
hatch was tiny. i brought my recycling bin, which just fits in the pip. the prime hatch was still a foot off the sill when it touched the bin.
seats were funky, comfortable in some way, but almost too containing. maybe i'm just used to pip seats.
i thought the engine was noisy, almost a sporty sound they were trying to achieve for those who desire it.
hud was nice, this was an advanced. the drcc, lka and self parking were cool. i drive like a granny, so didn't notice the handling.
didn't seem as quiet, but i think my new energy savers trump the oem tyres and any sound insulation they may have added.
back seat felt a little cramped, but i never sit in my own.

my biggest pluses would be the range (if i can keep the engine off) and the heat pump.
biggest negatives are the hatch and 4 seats.

really liked the interior, but i think i liked the plus cloth seats and screen over the softex and big screen.

i would like an extended drive, but they said they didn't have enough to do that now. not sure what that means, since they have three, and they've been sitting there for weeks.

When the packages first came out I immediately assumed that I would want a premium, not because I care about power seats and softex but because I couldn't imagine going from three door SKS to one door. Then I started leaning towards advanced because of the extra sensors, apps etc. But to my surprise I find myself now leaning toward the Plus, and not just for the substantial cost savings compared especially to the advanced, but I think I may actually like it better in some ways. When I get a chance to actually see one I'll have a better idea.

i would miss the 3 door sks, hatch mostly. i use it a lot when the car is locked. have to learn to touch the door handle first i guess.
28k -6k tax credits -s 1k rebate and 10k for my pip, and i'm in for 11k. not too shabby.

Do you need 5 seats? I think it's time to buy. Tariffs might start for year 2017. Or wait... See if the 5 seater or solar top comes out. Toyota had also mentioned that it's range is easily upgraded with better batteries...

Maybe the refresh will have 30 miles ev, 5 seats and android + Apple car.

How long did it take to put 2 miles in it? When I tried Charge Mode on my way up to Howell Michigan about a half hour later I had about 19 miles of EV

Just curious, did you put the Prime in charge mode when you first started out? was that why ICE was on?

Could be that immediately after cancelling charge mode the car behaves different than we expect. Manual does not elaborate much on this mode (to say the least...).
In order to experience EV driving in a test drive when the car at the dealer is with zero charge (HV mode) I would try to force charge it (charge mode) while stationary, shut it down then starting the test drive so the car defaults to EV mode.
If you will have the chance, please check charge rate in charge mode (like: minutes per mile).

i'd say less than 5 minutes, but i was on the highway, not watching the clock.

when i got there, instead of having a charged car ready, it was sitting in the parking lot warming up. by the time we climbed in, the engine was off and the heat was set to 80. the sales weasel wouldn't stop yapping, but i managed to shut the heat off and put it in charge mode. it charged to 1.5 miles while he yapped, and we headed out.
of course, he kept telling me to try power mode, but i'm only interested in ev. i could drive ev very slowly, with gradual acceleration, but a bit more pressure on the pedal would start the engine, and it would shut off as soon as i backed off. it was more like hv mode, but i checked the settings several times, and switched back and forth to be sure. when that charge was gone, i added 2 miles on the highway and the same thing kept happening.
i'll admit operator error is a possibility, the screens wre very confusing for a newbie, a lot of info and buttons.

I initially found the screens confusing. But now looking back more intuitive for sure than the old prius. This car is also a lot smarter which I like. Why couldn't the tablet be smarter...? I don't know.
Buy you can power mode in ev as well :p

I think so, but I'm not sure what the HSI bar is...is it that ugly green thing in the middle telling you when you're in EV and not? It's daunting to deal with the views in the Prime initially, but then it's great.

    The things I'm missing are:

    • HV vs EV stats
    • kWH inputted stats (I want to know how much energy I put into the car!) - for now I hand calculate it.
    • That screen where it shows how many miles EV, gallons saved, etc...is not there.
    • I do like my instantaneous kWh/mile bar - sort of like that MPG bar, but in EV mode you get to see your kWH efficiency.

missing, or you just can't find them?

the hsi bar is green, slides left and right depending on pedal pressure, and shows you where the ice will fire, far right power zone.

I can't seem to figure out how to get that to show up on my Prime. Is it because I have the Advanced version? And it only shows up in the HUD?

Left/right until you have "i", up/down until you get the hybrid system indicator. OM pages 208-210.
