If you can't lock the car from the outside, it may be that you have left or lost your spare key inside the car

You can't lock the car using the drivers door handle if the engine is running or if your spare key is inside the car. I always use the door handle to unlock and lock the car. So when the car locked itself with my wifes keys inside that wasn't normal.

does your key fob have remote start capability? my last car did and the way the key was in my pocket I sat on the button and remote started it a few times and also if hold the unlock it would roll all the windows down! it took me a minute to figure out what was going on.

i think you're on the right track with the corolla or camry. a car that starts itself is not safe to drive. what if it decides to steer itself?

Steering is electric but I don't think its controlled by the computer. But that is a scary thought.

Now that is scary !!!!!!! This is all probably caused by the fact that I haven't changed any of my fluids yet besides my oil (and thats changed at 10k). I think also the air in my tires is to low 38lbs.

I guess it's pretty much a done deal, that you are shutting the car down. Still, it seems to behaving like it's not shut down.

Whether or not the ICE is running or not has nothing to do with the headlights going off and on. I don't have the headlights that come on when car is started (unless you leave them on from the night before). If I had left the car running the and not turned the lights off they would have stayed on and not been going on and off.

It wont do it often enough to catch it the act. Its 7 1/2 yrs old so I may just trade it in on something newer.

Thank you all for trying to help. Took it in to dealer last night to have it checked again and nothing found. So i got pissed and traded it in on a 2017 Corolla SE. What a difference. Better ride and quieter. Not as good MPG but I was looking for comfort and safety .

really wish your story had a better ending. my '09 prius is doing weird things since the 12V was replaced. I'll power it off, then it just comes back on. done this about 10 random times. but today, when I went back out to go somewhere, it wouldn't do ANYTHING. I tried holding down the power button - sometimes it would turn green, but no other activity. sometimes it would blink red. sometimes just nothing. so I took my mom's car to run the errand. when I came back, I decided to try it again - only to find that the thing was ON already. and I have reason to believe that it turns on while i'm not around ... whenever it does this weird electrical blip, the clock always goes to 1:00 and there have been times when I've gotten in, started it, and the clock is wrong by varying times.
