there will be a lot of push back against self driving cars, which will slow their arrival greatly. and states rights will play a part.
it all sounds good on boards like this, but then there's the other 97% of the country, and politicians.

You forgot the businesses (oil, car parts) that buy the politicians. :(

Yea, I don't think so, either. Although I find Elon Musk a good man that wants the whole world to benefit from his ideas and that's why maybe I thought that Tesla would open source their AI...

Well, I have no idea, really. It looks promising but again, there are so many more videos of Tesla. I guess we'll have to wait and see, eh?

Most new commercial airline pilots these days do not come through the military. The military significantly extended the minimum required time commitment for their pilots, making it really not practical for someone intending to use it only for flight training. Instead, prospective commercial airline pilots pay for their own instruction and airplane rental expenses for 250 flight hours to first become commercial non-passenger-rated pilots, and then become instructors training people wanting private licenses to get the remainder of the 1500 flight hours needed to be hired as a passenger airline pilot. My son is in the process of doing this.

The biggest initial pushback will be because of the pricetags. It won't be cheap for a while.

All I want is the sound and light show that the model X has.

This looks nice. Didn't know about this feature yet. Is it just for fun or is it actually useful?

All Model X vehicles can currently do that. At some car shows I'll start that up a few times.
It is most impressive at night. The looks on the faces of the kids as they watch is priceless:)

Those gull wings are the single dumbest design choice I've ever seen on a car. That one feature would make the car almost totally useless for me since I couldn't open the doors in the garage for my kids to get in and out.

i think they open straight up so you can. either way, if i'm going to pay for them, i want to use them every time i get in and out of the car.

    No, I couldn't - they'd hit my garage door.

It's detectable, but as far as I can tell, 7'2" is the minimum. Not sure about that, though.

Doesn't matter anyway. The car I bought to do that job does it better than a Model X and cost $17k.
