    Here is the listing

2007 Toyota Prius Hybrid CVT Hatchback - Philadelphia, PA - Philly Auto

89,000 miles, 2007 Prius, one previous auto check certified owner!

So the car feels great and clean VIN. I'm about to buy but I have one question because these sellers obviously don't know Prius' well. They are advertising this car as a more powerful Prius engine. "It will feel like a normal car, no freeway problem" When I look at the car info it is just a CVT engine. Aren't they all CVT?

My question is of this car listed is this a 'better' engine at all?

    Thanks! IMG_7615.JPG

This car is just like any other Prius you read about, no stronger engine blah blah. CVT is the transaxle, not the engine.

It's most likely a package 2, has smart keys, backup camera.....

Looks very good for the price, are you going to have it checked by someone that knows a Prius before buying? Like a Toyota dealer?

I know I should but everything seems completely right. Toyota has over a week wait to have it checked out! The Prius has 30 day warrantee and is auto check certified. Would it be so bad if I didn't? I feel good about it... but those are just feelings :p

Is there list of point checks maybe I could go through rather than taking it in?

Check the BBB for reports on the "dealer" you are thinking about buying from.

Also check with OTHER places for financing. The "Buy it here, Pay for it here" places are usually a ripoff, one way or another.
Make sure that 30 day "guarantee" is in writing and includes a "buyback" if major problems are found.

Then during that 30 days, have it inspected by a dealer.
A couple of hundred spent on that might save you THOUSANDS down the road.

Don't be swayed by a "pretty face".
You can tell almost nothing about a car from how it looks.
How many used cars have you bought in the past ??

If everything feels right to you, you probably can take a chance at it. I see on the records that the water pump and belt was replaced at 80,000 miles, so that worry is out of the way.

You (possibly) have 1 year left on your Hybrid warranty, it goes for 8 years/100k miles. It's calculated from the first day the car was placed in service. So if the car was put into service September 2006 as a 2007 model, you would only have until September 2014 for your 8 year warranty to be up. So best to check this information with a Toyota dealer first. Give them the VIN # and ask when is the warranty up on the car.

I think the engine question has been answered. It looks like a decent deal to me if it is in good shape. Make them a lower offer and see what happens. If it was down here I would be interested in it.

    Good luck,
    Glenn

Nothing I see anywhere in the link you provided says anything about a "better engine".
It also does NOT say anything about a CVT "engine" as you state.

Now.......I know that this is going to strike some people as nasty or unfriendly but it REALLY appears to me that you don't know enough about cars to be making this BIG purchasing decision like this on your own.

And "we" can't really help you either.
Please have it inspected by a dis-interested 3rd party. Please.
A Toyota dealer can even test the hybrid battery and provide a good guess as to it's health too.

Perhaps Alisa was referring to "verbal statements" made by a less than knowledgeable sales person?

Wait a minute, "a less than knowledgeable sales person", is that a redundancy?

Noticed Eldorado Tires, which are probably not LRR (Low Roll Resistance). You will loose about 4 MPG with these tires.
Try to get them to knock off $500 for new tires. You really don't need to replace them until the current tires wear out. Or try to sell them first. Then put LRR's on.
