Can't find a 2022 prius prime xle . I live in so. ca. and it seems the market is dry and if you find one the dealer wants to up sale you 5000 to 2500 above MSRP ??? I had a dealer at Toyota of Corona call me and said the car i was waiting for was coming off the truck as we speak, so on my way he called and said ; " oh buy the way the markup is $ 2500.00 this week, last week it was $5000.00 ABOVE MSRP Wth ??? So i continued on my way in traffic when i get another call telling me The CAR just SOLD ????" So half way there i had to turn around and go home empty handed . Wth ?????

Do you have a deposit down?
if so, need to find a new dealer.

If not, the market is crazy right now.
Demand is up and obviously supply is severely limited.

If you can wait longer, that is good.
If not, perhaps looking for used may be necessary.

Some folks can locate out of state, but may not be best in your scenario.
    Good luck!

It is the high gas prices. Nobody wanted a Prius Prime last year; everybody wants a Prius Prime now. Imagine what will happen when the gas prices hit $10+ a gallon in a few months!

I ordered one at MSRP (or less) last weekend, with a $500 fully refundable deposit. ETA: 3–6+ months.

I don't know a whole lot about buying cars. If you check out cars on a dealer's website, you can see the MSRP for the car. But the markup, that's not something I would see on the website? They would verbally tell you what the markup is and it can change?

My brother sells cars, he has been telling me for months "Look, this is the very worst time to buy a car, every car is priced about $8k more than normal, don't buy now if you can avoid it". Of course in 6 months Toyota will pass 200k in sales and the IRS tax credit will begin to phase out. And same is predicted with Ford and Nissan, so might be good to buy those during 2022 and not 2023. Some dealerships are now also adding bumps or mark-ups to ordered vehicles when they arrive. You ordered the car 6 months ago, it finally arrives at the lot, the dealer adds a $5k bump on the price. Dang they can be gangsters. Now, there are some dealerships farther away from urban centers that still sell at the MSRP. And it's possible to find your Prius Primes, LE or Limited trims forget about XLE, in CARB states using Autotrader or Cargurus search engines and asking "Do you still sell the Prius Prime at MSRP?". You will have to provide a $500 deposit to show you are serious and they will add you to the list of folks they are shopping for incoming Primes and within a few weeks likely share one that becomes available on a boat on it's way to the USA and if you want that one.

Try dealers on the east coast, if you don't mind having it shipped out. I was able to secure one out of NY this week that is already on the lot there. My friend is also working with a dealer out of Vermont to secure one that was just allocated to them the other day. Both deals are going to be at MSRP sales.

Southern California seems to have the highest demand. There have been no new Prius Primes in Southern California for a long time.

definitely. do they still get the hov stickers? that really drove sales in the past.

not many incentives here, but it profits toyota to stock them here for some reason

It's more the high gas prices than the HOV decals, I believe.

I was in a similar situation, looking for a '22 Prime in either XLE or Limited trim and a specific color. I visited two local dealers (I'm near Providence) and was treated so poorly that I walked out of both.

I had an old alert on cars.com that flagged a match on Friday night last week, sent an email, drove it and bought it on Saturday. I got what I thought was a fair price on my 2014 Prius-IV trade and a relatively fair price on the '22 given the market. It was such a relaxing and pleasant experience, especially compared to the shit-show at the other two dealers.

Looking back I think that the difference was that the first two dealers didn't have any lead on what I wanted but were trying to talk me into leaving money with them in case something showed up. The third dealer had the car on the lot.
