I'm staying in GM Headquarters in Detroit! I'm so excited!

Toyota has a tech center in Ann Arbor, but I don't know how accessible it is to the public.

GM's HQ is in the Renaissance Center in Detroit, and the Detroit Marriott is part of the complex, so I suspect he's not staying in GM's HQ.

And this strikes me as a thread that doesn't belong in this sub-forum--sounds off topic to me.

I stayed there once and had a hotel room w/a floor pretty high up and a nice view of Windsor, Canada and the river between the two countries.

The hotel occupies some (all?) of the upper floors of the round building in the middle. IIRC, there's a GM logo on the building and one usually sees all of those buildings when the press shows the outside of GM HQ.

The bottom floor of the complex had a GM showroom too.

A bunch of us from Priuschat got to go to Detroit ... seems like about a year ago or more. The city was like Fallujah . . . bombed out looking . . . gun shots in the distant background each night. Somehow, I miss seeing the OP's thrill of going to Detroit:

Yeah, it was more ~1.5 years ago now. I agree about the look of much of the city: boarded up, abandoned buildings everywhere, just like I'd imagined.

But, the Ren Cen that houses GM HQ and the Marriott there are actually quite nice. I stayed there one night (got a room cheap, thanks to Priceline). I also enjoyed taking the Ford Rouge factory tour, the Henry Ford Museum and my brief visit to the North American International Auto Show.

Okay, the fond memories occurred in Detroit, my fondest memories are of the people I met in Detroit :thumb:

 

Except for that yokel in the back left. I don't know how he got in there - must have been trimming the bushes around the sign when they snapped the photo.

I saw 2nd gen Priuses on the production line back in November 2003, well before I was ever interested in buying one.

 

November 2003 was when I ordered mine. Maybe you saw mine being built! Delivery was January 2004.

I presume the fast departure was because that was illegal? I'd never seen video of a base jump take-off. Interesting that instead of a rip cord, they hold the little starter 'chute in their hand
