In need of help with U0100 and C1310 codes

    So a few days ago my Prius got a red triangle in the deep of night and my car didn't let me drive much further than a half mile until a complete stop. At the time I ran a scan with Dr. Prius for the error codes I was getting, with were: P3000, U0100. Online I was seeing videos of needing to replace the fuse, but that was in the best case. Lacking time, I bit the bullet and towed the car to a Toyota dealer hoping they'd at least diagnose this quickly for a premium.

    Upon replacing the 12v battery the car became functional but they want $450 in order to proceed with testing... I'm uncertain if that includes the $180 service fee but the service agent reads: C1310, U0100, that the 15a fuse burnt out and the positive terminal isn't properly installed. Then there was a recommendation for them to replace my ABS pump (he spoke earlier about relays, not sure if that applies here).

    I'm thinking of buying a code reader and techstream for future reference but what would be the possible complications with going about this DIY? I have about a week and a half worth of time.


    This is the technician preliminary report:

    Perform initial vehicle inspection, found no power to vehicle, installed power supply. Vehicle no start condition found. Check engine light and delta light noted on at this time, no other warning lights noted. Perform health check retrieved trouble codes U0100 Lost Communication with ECM/PCM A under Hybrid system. ABS showing C1310 for HV System Malfunction. Perform electrical diagnosis, found 15A fuse blown. Replace fuse, clear codes. Vehicle started with booster. Found positive terminal not properly installed. Noted AGM battery type for aux source. Previous history noted ABS pump recommended. At this time no codes related found. At this time recommend OEM battery and correct battery condition. Request further information of conditions when malfunction occurred (stall). Possible intermittent condition that has not been verified.

    You can measure/monitor ABS pump replacement need by how often it cycles. At first it will cycle more often than normal but not by much... Then once its turning on every minute or two it's time to change it.

    As for P3000, it's time for a charge and balance of your hybrid battery pack, maybe even reconditioning with a long term plan to replace pack or replace modules.

    The HV battery was replaced in 2015. I ran a test a few months back and it gave me a read for 80% battery life. Also the codes from Toyota didn't show up with P3000 as an issue; the reader I used was a $30 OBD II. The ABS isn't cycling every minute but maybe every occasional 5-15 minutes. I do notice that it comes on but it isn't irritating. What would you say is a normal cycle?

    At large I'm hoping this is an inverter and fuse replacement...

    Was the HV replacement brand new or rebuilt? If it was rebuilt, that's likely your problem... As for brake pump 5-15 minutes is pretty good for now. Monitor it as it declines over time and once you're annoyed enough the hassle to replace it will eventually be less annoying than living with it.

    The replacement was a new HV battery, from the Toyota dealer.

    i would get tech stream on it, but if the dealer got those codes, they should be correct.

    maybe corrosion at the ecu, or rodents chewing wires

    you're saying that this might have nothing to do with my inverter pump?

    just look in the reservoir for movement while in ready and engine off.

    since everything flows back to the 12v, i might recheck all those connections and the voltage with car off.
    then remove the negative to reset everything.

    Ok, thanks. I won't have the car back until tomorrow to try to troubleshoot these things. Is the corroded ecu a hard fix?

    depends on location and getting at it. then there can be corrosion on either or both sides of the connector pins.
    but at least once you've found it and checked it, if it's not corrosion, you could replace it.

    Ask the Dealership for the codes they pulled from the car, it'll be more complete than the ones you pulled.

    A gen 2 car rarely will stop while you're driving, unless you ran out of gas or blew the fuse on the inverter pump. If you blew the fuse, your car will just stop dead in it's tracks.

    Ask specifically which 15A fuse was blown? The inverter pump fuse is 15A and it'll completely disable your car when that goes.

    Those are the codes they gave me. The service rep is saying since the 12v battery died that the codes were reset and this was all they could pull and would have to drive my car for fifty miles… I’m going to try tech stream tomorrow and replace the battery, fuse and *inverter pump.

    There's nothing wrong with your inverter... That's just a symptom... Inverter Pump on the other hand, that's different...

    It should only run to restore fluid pressure that you have consumed by using the brakes. Normal is to hear it run a bit, once every few to every several times that you use the brake pedal. When you are not using the brake pedal, pressure should not be going anywhere, and it should normally hold up for hours that way without the pump having to run.

    So I changed the 12v battery and connected the inverter pump but couldn't bolt it down without taking off the headlights. I'll finish that tomorrow.

    But this is what came out:

    C1310 Malfunction in HV system

    C1259 HV system Regenerative Malfunction

    B1412 (air conditioner)

    I tried changing the fuses a few times but the car would make an attempt to start and then leave me hanging.
