sometimes i lose interest figuring the problem had to be solved long ago. then i'll get curious and tune in, only to find out the subject has changed, or the horse is being beaten.
either way, i'll miss a few hundred posts.

    Your miss ratio isn’t bad;).

I essentially ignore the Gen4 and prime forums during the week when I’m slammed and short on time:cool:.

I think he’s changed it 3 times since the OP:cool:.

Although he claims it was by chance, it’s too perfectly placed for that;).

    I bet a sticker since he’s above the 49th parallel(y).

I’ve kept mine the same for about a year and a half :).

Hypermiling the RX450h and getting the 2.5 tons to 37.3 mpg I thought was pretty good;).

    Maybe someday soon it’ll change(y).

My dad has had a number of injet printers that just clog up and can't be fixed (as far as either of us knew) The latest printer he bought is a Samsung Xpress C1860FW, a lazer printer. (Sure is more $$) It's maybe 9 months old. I've bought a few cheap toner sets off amazon for about $70 for all 4 colors. I got over 1000 pages, looks like 7 cent a page + paper. I seen that video when we were looking for a new printer and it is so true.

Inkjet printers are not a good solution unless used regularly because the print heads become clogged just sitting. A laser or LED printer are better options even though they are more expensive initially.

Consider the inkjet printer is much like the Prius. Neither like to sit around unused for a long time.

That leaf was just clinging, it was a rainy day. I didn't shift it or reorient it, that's all she wrote.

Received 3 empty OEM ink cartridges (2 black and 1 color) and refill ink 100ml each for black and 3 colors. Total cost ~$30. The amount of ink is enough for our lifetime supply. If refilling the cartridge and resetting the printer work and no clogging or other mishap happens, I am set for our printing needs for foreseeable future. This is the only supply I am purchasing for this printer excluding papers. If it doesn't work, it will be a disposable printer and will be replaced with a cheap laser printer next time I need to print something.

I went the refill route for many years. Always was fighting clogged heads. The better the ink quality, the longer I seemed to go between clogged print heads. I'm sure I saved a ton of money that way, but it was an investment in time.

For a comparison point, I just ordered yellow and magenta toner for our Brother HL-3170CDW, which is not the cheapest per sheet, but pretty low cost up front. We've had the printer a little over four years. This thread inspired me to look back at how much toner I've bought and how many sheets we've printed. I've replaced the black twice and the colors once each. Right now, we have about 10% left of yellow, 20% of magenta, 30% of cyan, and 40% of black. We've printed 4,633 pages and (not counting what I ordered today) spent $339.23 on toner. That comes to about 7 cents per page for toner. However, the toner cartridges that were in it new, only ran around 1,500 pages or so. The replacements run much longer, so the cost per page should go down till we have to get new drums. The drums still have 70% of their life left. That's at least 10 years down the road at the rate we're going.

I love inkjets for photos, but these days, what few we print aren't worth it. We just have them done at a Walgreens or some such place.

I just received my refilled ink cartridges in the mail today and the color one was empty. I weighed it on my little scale, the new one was 44 grams and the empty one was 28 grams. I only buy printers that use two cartridges, I never print pictures, a total waste of ink.

Yeah, as I stated in OP, my need for a printer is minimal. We can live without it for the most part. For heavy printer use, laser jet seems to be the most cost-effective. But for someone like me needing to print maybe a few pages a month at most, $39.99 price tag on a giveaway inkjet looked perfect. That is until I have to deal with ink cartridges. :notworthy:

I'm pretty sure that there are some cheaper ink jet models where it's cheaper to replace the printer than the ink. :D

Yeah, this printer is $39.99 with ink cartridges. It is cheaper to buy the whole printer than buying replacement ink cartridges. Sure enough, if you search eBay for this printer, there are a lot of "Brand NEW never used PRINTER without ink cartridges" sold at even less. No one is buying them. What a waste!

That would indicate that some marketing folks didn't 'properly' arrange for reduced volume ink cartridges in the original printers. :D

Right! Imagine how much cheaper per page it would be if they properly filled the original cartridges. They do the same with laser toner, just on a bigger scale.

Most printers these days only come with starter cartridges that are not full.
