Just bought a 2020 Prius L Eco. Assumed it would have a rear wiper, as my previous Prii did. Muh bad.

Is it possible to install a rear wiper on it aftermarket?

Nothing is impossible - maybe. OK, OK - some things are.

You'd have to replace the back glass, get the wiper mechanism, and work out whether the wiring is in place. Then have to replace the steering wheel stalk, possibly it may not work anyway because the computer doesn't recognise it.

So - maybe it isn't possible, sorry.

That's funny. The go-to mod in Southern California is to strip the rear wiper from the cars.

Clean the rear screen and put some glass polish on it, makes it easier to clean.

Or Rain-X or similar products might help.

    No spare either. :(

And for this you pay extra.

i bet it can be done by a clever diy'er. drill a hole, add motor, linkage and wiper, change stalk. wiring is already there, that's the hard part.

No cargo cover either since mid 2017. I guess the added extra standard safety features weighed too much ? o_Oo_O
I chose to get a Trim Two with spare & rear wiper. Part of the improved mileage rating for the Eco was due to the increased recommended tire pressure. I raised my tire pressure at no extra charge and, with a lot of highway driving, have averaged over 57 MPG over 30K+ miles.

I suspect there's something under-the-hood involved in the mpg rating increase, but it's kinda nuts to pay extra for a stripped-down version. I'm with you.

Actually they played the weight game using a Li-Ion battery and trimming extra weight to get into a lower weight EPA testing category.

Yeah, l recall @Tideland Prius mentioning that. Akin to boxing in a lighter weight class. I guess at the end of the day (hate that expression) you can achieve better numbers with the Eco, it's not completely smoke-and-mirrors (that one too), but I'd take the accessories over the bleeding edge mpg status.

The biggest difficulty is that, even if the wiring is there - sometimes the software isn't set up to handle it - can be a bit tricky with some things like that these days. Not like the old days when a switch just closes a circuit to the motor or bulb.

We don't get much snow/grime here on the wet coast, but fwiw, I use our rear wipers about as much as the fog lights. (Near zero.)

In the 12 years I have been driving a Prius, I have intentionally turned the rear wiper on 1 time.

It's good that it's got an intermittent setting - I use it quite a bit - but only if it's raining:eek:.

You won't be able to drill it if it's toughened glass, which I suspect it is, it will shatter. The only solution to getting the hole is to swap out the glass for a higher trim one.

The only time I use mine is to clear the screen if it's dirty when I'm too lazy to clean it before I set off.

They removed that in mid 2017 including the needed mount points.
