When I provided my insurance the vin # for a brand new Prius Two vs a Persona I was very surprised to say the least.
    Two-$173 higher per year.
Persona - $49 higher per year.

I asked why and here's what they told me.
"The collision and comprehensive symbols have changed with the vin numbers."

Very cool! Glad I got the Persona and it definitely pays off to do the research before buying and jumping into any new vehicle.

Remember the Persona has a bit of a different exterior setup than the Two, plus the fatter wheels. Makes sense. I use Amica. They are the best in my opinion for home and auto.

maybe the small quantity on the road doesn't give them enough claims info?

Sounds like bad data to me.

I'm sure they're going by the number of each involved in accidents, but that's attributing rarity as part of causality when the fact is that if there are fewer on the road, there likely will be fewer involved in accidents.

Also, when you consider the price difference in insurance compared to the cost of purchase....

It's a numbers game say 100k prius2 10k get in accidents and say 25k Personas 5k get in accidents 10% vs 5% make Presonas safer. Thou there are no major mechanical difference between the two. It's all a numbers game to the insurance companies
Ps those number are a just saying number.

Technically, ALL Prius models should be in one category unless there is objective proof that trim level impacts causality.

It'd be like saying a Ford F-150 is rated for loss risk based on what color seats you get...although they have data showing that certain color vehicles tend to be in more accidents and get more tickets (personality of owner).

Back when I worked for Porsche the 911 turbo had one of the highest insurance rate then any other car on the market and the 911 natural aspirated was the same as Volvo cause the turbo where getting wrecked at unbelievable rates cause no one knew how to drive them properly and would stuff them backwards in to something. Then there's the whole where you live I pay a higher rate for my motorcycle then my friend for lives one town over and 5 miles away.

Insurance is a whacky game! It seems the rules are made up as they go :(

I've seen a few straight years of small increases yet I've never made a claim except for a "comprehensive" deer hit (suicidal deer) yrs ago that does not affect rates.

They always state that the increases are due to an increase of claims in the area, etc.

Call around to different companies, and you will get different quotes and I bet some the reverse of what your company offered.

I have suspicions why, but since I am unsure I'll just say this is not unique to the Prius by any means.
