The picture was from cylinder 4, which was the dirtiest/cruddiest of the four.

Cylinder 4 was also the wettest. The buildup was thicker, oilier and less crusty than the other three cylinders.

I just realized I need an M12 triple-square bit to take the head bolts off. I don't have any triple square bits, so that will hold me up for a few days.

I got the passenger side engine mount off, and will work on the timing cover and WP tonight or tomorrow.

Given the cams and valvetrain looks so good, I think I will reuse the original timing chain, However, I'm thinking I should replace the water pump, as well as the thermostat and PCV. I'll have the machine shop clean the EGR cooler and resurface the head, and get a full Toyota overhaul gasket set. Any other things I am forgetting that I should line up?

My cheap silly husky spline sockets took the head bolts right off I know it's not the correct but it didn't damage them and then when I did have the right tool that fit right on there perfectly and all of that so and a pinch the husky spline drive black socket worked without damage.

Go to Autozone, they have a 3 bit kit that has the correct one. $25....
They probably won't know what you're talking about, but if you go to the tools
    and look you'll find it.
