I'd much rather be dry when it rains than have a strong cell phone signal!

Yep, some could have defective batteries, but the ones that are getting hot while idle hot due to the CPU and/or radio staying in a high power state probably don't have defective batteries.

Someone else on Tivocommunity posted today:
So, this is another less drastic thing to try.

I'm going to start a post on TC confirmed to significantly improve battery life, for some.

I have everything off except documents and data and Find my iPhone. I don't need a cloud copy of my photos or anything else since I only have one Apple product, I just use the iCloud backup so that I can free up space in my computer.

I read something today that it might be some sort of interaction between timezone checking settings and localization (aka GPS)... turning off Timezone Sensing apparently might fix the problem.

Yes, this was already discussed in post 74, if not earlier.

I had iCloud turned on; battery lasted many three hours. I did the Time Zone thing. Battery still lasted about three hours. I finally turned iCloud off; battery is now back to normal.

I was hesitant to do that since I use(d) MobilMe as my primary email address, but "Cancel iCloud account" just means turn it off ON THAT DEVICE.

My new 4S battery is great. It's fast. Siri is a mixed bag so far.

I had a 3G iphone that worked well with my 2007 Prius. I just upgraded to 4S and I have to manually connect the phone EVERY time after I turn off the engine. Does anyone know how to fix this? I never had this problem before...
    Thanks,

Did you delete the prior phone? Severing the Bluetooth link will not erase your contacts list. I just erased my Droid, synced the 4s in about 20 seconds. The existing Droid contact list works on the 4s just fine.

I downloaded 5.01 yesterday at around noon, charged my battery to 100% and my battery still drained fast, the same as before. "OOPS"

Bummer. Did any of the suggestions provided earlier help? If so, go back to those workarounds?

iPhone owners to Apple: iOS 5.0.1 doesn't fix battery drain problem | ZDNet also claims it isn't fixing the battery life issues for everyone. If that's the case, then it seems like Apple didn't fix all the bugs that could cause the drain...

I got 5.0.1 this afternoon. I haven't turned iCloud back on, though, and it looks like I won't yet.

I'm still on 5.0, and saw my first rapid battery drain yesterday. My phone went from about 80% to 70% during my 10 minute ride home. When I took it out to look at it, I noticed it was rather warm. In this case, it looked like it was a bug in the calendar/notification center - I had an alert from the calendar for 5PM, and as it was displaying the alert on the lock screen, the time field was rapidly switching between "5:00PM" and "2 minutes ago" unlocking the phone solved the problem - everything cooled down, and the battery drain stopped.

So, that seems to suggest the workaround in post 82 might help...

Once I unlocked the phone, the calendar item was no longer on the notification center, so no issues. Left work on Friday with 100% charge, didn't plug it in the entire weekend, and I had 37% when I got to work today. Battery is back to normal :)
