No you are not the only one. I find the AUX sound really bad. Not sure what option I have to get better sound quality out of my radio. I don't have the nav system, so no bluetooth integration possible.

I used to use a Belkin charger that had aux-out and sound quality was very good with that. Unfortunately it was not iPhone 3G compatible so I bought a Kensington Liquid-Aux.

Unfortunately this suffers from the ground hum so I'm waiting on an isolator to resolve that. Otherwise the Liquid-Aux is superb as it has a steering wheel mounted wireless remote which works very well.

I use an iPhone 3GS and have a 2006 with JBL stereo, I'm taking delivery tomorrow night on my car. This post has been very helpful. I am going to the Apple store today and buying the Kensington for the AUX jack. My questions is, when you use the plug ins, does the phone still work? I dont mind using the iPhone as am ipod, instead of using the ipod, but I want to make sure I dont loose the phone section of the iphone when listening to music. I understand the music mutes when the phone rings, but does the phone disengage when using the aux jack?

The humming/hissing/buzzing is a combination of ground loop noise and electronic interference. All you need is a ground loop isolator, and it will fix or significantly improve the sound quality. I had this same exact problem and did some research on ground loop isolators. There are alot of units out there but griffin makes one that is perfect for the car called the "Griffin Noise-reducing audio cable". Fixed my problem completely.

Which Liquid Aux model did you get?

When the phone is docked for charging/playing music, can you still make/receive calls?
