OK, sorry for any repeated questions, but I want to make sure about a few things. I have a 2006 with the JBL and nav. I have the VAIS AIC-100i right now, and it works fine EXCEPT that nothing shows up on the MFD except a generic track number. I would like this feature. Right now I keep my iPod in my glovebox and use the steering wheel controls to change tracks, etc. so no cradle. I don't want to use the actual iPod controls, only the steering wheel and radio controls, so I'd be using the UR mode. Here are my questions:

    1. Is it FULLY compatible with the 2006? The 2006 is different from the 2004-05. Don't want to have the same thing happen with this as with the VAIS.

    2. Will track info show up on the MFD.

    3. What controls show up on the MFD? (shuffle, repeat, etc.)

    4. Switching playlists, how's it done?

    5. Are there any playlist limits, number of playlists or tracks per playlist?

    6. Will track info show up on the MFD.

OK, so I know I asked one question twice, but it's the only reason I'd switch. I just want to make sure it's REALLY compatible with the new 2006 system. VAIS thought their unit was until I got one, tried it, and informed them of the change. Don't want to a guinea pig again. If questions 2 and 6 re a YES, then I will sign up for this without a doubt!

    Thanks!

Does the DICE interface for the ipod/dock connector provide POWER to recharge the ipod or is the interface audio only? This applies to both the cable or the dock version of the interface.

    Thanks.

Yes, both the cable and the dock will charge the iPod.

I'll double check about the 2006. I've been assuming that they've been testing with a 2006. I know that the overall answer to your question is yes, track info will show up on the MFD. I'm not sure about which controls show up on the MFD, or playlists, but I'll call Monday and find out.

If it's anything like the instructions I've seen for the Vias, it should be easy to install.

I don't have an iPod but would consider buy one and this interface if it was easy to listen to audio books and pod casts. Listening to music is also important but secondary. Can anyone tell me how hard or easy this would be to do. From what I'm reading it seems playlists are the only thing you can control. How would audio books or pod casts fit into this ? I have read though alot of the iPod postings but didn't find an exact answer.

    Thanks,

    Ken

Podcasts are downloaded into iTunes in a special "podcast" area, and can then bhe moved into a playlist to be transfered to the iPod (and then played like a normal song would be). Audio books are really just music tracks with nothing but vocals. those should probably be put into a playlist based on the book so they don't get mixed up. Just make sure shuffle tracks is off before you start listening to a book (assuming chapters are different tracks or something along those lines)

Yeah, this is where I'm going with this too. I know audio books can be done, but I suppose you have to convert it from mp3 to what goes into the iPod.

    iPods take mp3's.

one of the nice things about iTunes, is it'll rip tracks straight from a CD for you, work with MP3's on your computer, and even convert some other audio formats automatically to something the iPod can use. so essentially all you do is add a music file to iTunes and it takes care of the rest (in the background, so you can still do more stuff, like organize playlists)

Any thoughts on if the Aux input will be better or worse than the one on the 06 ? The problem I have with mine is the plug will not snap in completely, it will disconnect with VERY little pressure. I haven't had the time to take it back to the dealer to see what they have to say.

    Thanks,

    Ken

Ok, here's the rest of the answers.

The DICE until will allow unlimited # of playlists, and songs on those playlists
MFD controls will allow shuffle and other common functions, but they are not sure about repeat (the sales person I talked to was not sure, not the techs - I would assume they would know)
Playlists will be able to be controlled via the MFD or the iPod unit.

Because they just got done testing this unit, they want to make sure it is working 100% correctly before they ship out 50+ of them and have bugs. So, I need 5 people willing to be the first buyers and help to make sure there aren't any bugs with the units. Obviously if bugs are found, DICE/Dension will fix the units and the first buyers' firmwares will be updated. Also, they have only been testing on a 2004 & 2005 Prius, not a 2006, so we'll need at least 2 2006 owners to be a part of the first buyers group.

Dension is willing to give us the following pricing:
    $159 regular price + shipping
40+ buyers: Free ground shipping and 10% off = $143.10
50+ buyers: Free ground shipping and 15% off = $135.15

For the first 5 buyers I'll take another 5% off the 50+ group (total 20% price break) = $127.20 shipped

First 5 to post their interest and willingness to help report back reviews get the $127.20 price. I'll PM those 5 with directions.

    Danny,

I would be willing to be one of the first to install the DICE/Denison unit and report back. I also sent you a PM. Let me know.

    Danny,

I've got a 2005 Pkg. #6 (upgraded JBL/NAV/BT) and I would also like to be one of the beta-testers. I live in Orange County, CA (in case it matters where you are located). I'll do my own install, etc., so they'll get quick feedback from me.

Count me in for at least one - I have an 04, 05, AND an 06, and have installed Jon's XM on both the earlier Prii, so I should be an ideal beta tester, yes?
