I don't think W himself is smart enough to even think it through that far. But I do think that he revels in the climate of fear that boosts his popularity, and that he delights in each new act of terrorism that gives him the chance to further reduce citizen freedoms in the name of "Freedom."

Every tyranny needs an "external enemy." Some do this by blaming some powerless group. The present US government is doing it by policies that provoke people who are already disposed to dislike us into taking overt action against us. The terrorist leaders, in a similar manner, adopt policies designed to provoke us to take action against them.

In this manner the would-be fascists in our government, and the thugs leading the terrorists, feed off of each other, and strengthen each other. While their followers suffer and die (U.S. soldiers, Iraqi civilians, and terrorist operatives) and while their countries fall into decay (the physical destruction of Iraq, and the economic deterioration of the U.S.) the leaders of both camps increase their influence, power, and personal wealth.

You have it all figured out. Very smart. You should teach now and spread the wisdom.

Daniel, this is very close to what I think. I would strike out the "would be" in front of fascists. Our enemies are not external - they are the elites in any country, "the leaders of both camps" that seek to "increase their influence, power and personal wealth" at the expense of workers, soldiers, ordinary taxpayers and "allow their countries to fall into decay".

The U.S. is not (yet) a fascist country. Our present leaders would like to make it one. Thus my use of "would-be." On the other hand I understand your view: that they are fascists because they are trying to make our country fascist.

A slight difference in how we apply the word.

I agree. They are already fascists, personally and would like to be openly fascist in a fascist state. Good distinction. I am glad someone cares about using language with precision.

    Nope.

You assume everyone who believes that civil rights are an integral part of freedom must be a hippie?

Please note that when PC's conservatives agree with each other I don't ask whether they've got their white sheets on.

Grasshopper, I mean dragonfly, you disappoint me. It stands for Crosby Stills Nash & Young - one of my favorite bands from that time period - grew up with them - watching the vietnam war on TV - bell bottoms - kent state - all distant memories.

    Have a nice day!

No, They're all in Iraq now. and we know exactly where they're at. we just keep them there by sending our troops over and play war games with them.

You and I, we all know it. The terrorists will NOT leave us alone. we gonna play over there or we gonna play here in our back yard. Do you still want to go the mall if there's a bomb goes off once in a while? do you want to send your kids to school if you know there is a chance they may not come home? etc...

Yes, there are always terroist threats but as long as they're over them and we know exactly where they are, I feel pretty save here.

This post makes no sense. When's the last time a bomb went off in a mall? And our kids are certainly not safe in school, but it's not because of the "terrorists" we supposedly went to iraq to fight.

Do you think Iraq has a lock on the "terrorists"? Who do you think attacked us on 9/11?

Not yet! because they're busy over there. But I love to be here and we will see.

No, but at least we know where they are for now. And you still think the terrorist attached us on 9/11?

I really believe they will be over here if we're not over there. And I hope I am wrong.
