IRIDIUM SPARK PLUGS

    Iridium is such a rare and unique element, I hate to waste it. I wish we could recycle the old plugs for Iridium recovery.
    In any case, changing them at 60k for no reason is a waste of an incredible substance/resource. I changed mine once at about 135k miles and I do not expect to ever change them again. And I still got the old iridium plugs.

    Just replaced my original iridium spark plugs with new iridium spark plugs after 143,000 miles. Runs a little smoother but fuel economy is the same. Old plugs were in good condition. Use iridium and replace them as recommended for a smoother engine performance. I waited too long.

    With the level of effort involved and long mileage between plug changes, using an inferior, cheaper plug seems like false economy to me.

    Just curious: does anybody know if fourth gen plugs can be extracted without removal of windshield trim, wipers, wiper motors/linkage and metal cowl?

    Hurdle #1: Can the coil be pulled out; is it physically possible, or does it bump into the cowl too soon?

    Hurdle #2: Is it possible to fiit a ratchet wrench with some combo of extensions in there, and fenangle the plug out?

    Hurdle #3: Number's one and two are just possible, but at the end of it will you wish you'd just removed the cowl anyway?

    For fourth-generation Prius cars, the Repair Manual (more info) says to remove the No. 1 engine cover sub-assembly; front wiper arm head cap, arm and blade assemblies, and water extract shields; and the cowl top ventilator louver sub-assembly, before removing the ignition coil assemblies. I haven’t tried it, but it wouldn’t surprise me if the coil assemblies are too tall to come out with the other parts in the way.

    I changed those from 97k as plugs too old and looks like corroded body. It costs 22k LKR + 13k tune up in hibrid hub sri lanka.

    That is external rust? not sure if it is from plugs or exposure to elements, not sure it matters too much? Also sounds like you replaced early? not sure replacement interval recommendation.

    I was super glad to find out they changed the engine bay enough with the CT that nothing extraneous has to be removed to change plugs and coils.

    Going back to the first page (speaking of beating a dead horse), I can laugh now, but was super upset then, when Lexus told me that i had installed "inferior" plugs which were NGK iridium plugs and they wanted to replace them with denso platinum plugs. ummm Wth?!?!?!

    My 02 with iridium spark plug is .39 on #1 cyl and shows misfire. Told not to gap when new. What is actual gap supposed to be?
