In any other time in American or world history, an economy car with 248000 miles would need a lot of repair/maintenance. But now we are faced with high gas prices that makes it less "crazy" to buy a car with that many miles for $6000. I would pass if I were you, just because you would need to put away another $6000 for the possible repairs you'll encounter later.

if you are a serious diy'er, you could keep it running at a reasonable cost with salvage parts.

if you have a trusted hybrid mechanic, you could keep it running at a fair cost

if you have only dealer service, i would look for a non hybrid automobile

I totaled my 2010 200k miles with a 2012 350k. I say that just to highlight where my confidence is with the make and model. if anyone has a negative response to my purchase please save it for yourself; I had to make do with the insurance payout. The used car market is ridiculous right now

If you can do maintenance like EGR cleaning, intake manifold cleaning, spark plugs, coolant fluid, ATF fluid, hybrid fan cleaning, all that good stuff, go for it.

I agree, I say if everything checks out, go for it. At that mileage, be prepared and budget for a potential future engine and battery replacement. But at $6,000 a Toyota is the ONLY manufacturer I would recommend with that high mileage.

    Who you callin desperate!? ;)

I will say I have been preparing for the recommended maintenance via you tube. I need to seek out a thread regarding battery replacement if the traction goes out. The ICE seems really strong and no indication of 350k on it. Green Bean claims to swap out battery for their refurb for 1700$. Not sure if I would reclaim $$ … gotta crunch some numbers.
