Is anyone else seeing wear marks on the MFD?

    Hello everyone,

I have a 2005 prius and recently, i'm noticing some discoloration in the MFD which I first took for dirt buildup, but after repeated attempts to buff out with a microfiber cloth, i think may be areas of wear. The screen has a slightly mottled appearance like a coating is wearing off, with darker areas along the left and right areas of the screen.

The screen still works fine and performance is not effected...but it's noticeable, both when the screen is in use and when the car is parked and the screen is off.

    thoughts?

Are you talking about the touch screen?

On one level I suspect wear is inevitable....it's a "Touch Screen".

I'm very careful, so much as to keep a rubber tipped stylus to use. Hopefully to minimize wear.

Signs of wear on a 10 year old touch screen? More than likely.

My 2005 screen is remarkably clean. Garage door opener button, however, is very worn.

I took a picture of the discoloration. I'm not even sure where those bizarre scratches came from. Certainly not from me!

Looks like someone has wiped the screen with a cloth contaminated with grit, or a diamond ring has caught it, or someone has used a stylus on it. Do you have any 5-13 year old kids by any chance? You know, the ones young enough to get up to mischief but old enough to deny all knowledge

It looks like someone scratched the screen and then tried to polish them out.

Mine is in remarkably good shape so the first thing I did was get a universal touch screen protector for $5 from Big Lots and cut it to fit the Prius. I've only had the car a little over a week so I can't vouch for how well it will work in the long run.
