Is it fairly common for rear struts to get noisy (170k miles)!

Reason for thread is I'm not a mechanic but when you are sitting in the backseat seem to really feel the bumps. A little creaky also....Just wondering if it is a common repair...Bought with 140k and currently has 170k so I do not know the history on this car...probably original

That's not the bad news. Bad news is the rear suspension requires new components to be installed when they go out of spec. Guess what happens when you replace the rear shocks?

If you do the job, it's not a bad idea to go ahead and replace the rear coil springs as well. No extra labor involved. Did mine at 130k, And the rear end stood up noticeably higher afterwards. Now I notice Gen II Prius with sagging rear end.
