IS it me or the EV mode in a reg pri useless

    My bad my texting language is leaching into my forum typing. But yes I didn't mean to be rude. We studied batteries in college so that's why I'm interested. The mechanical engineer in me understands the difference between lithium iron phosphate and nickel metal batteries.Do you guys not have the capacity listed?

    I see now. I looked at the website and on the gen 3 battery listing it wasn't there. Didn't expect it to not be on there and instead be at the bottom of the FAQ page.

    I'm glad I read page 2 of this thread before I posted this at the bottom of pg 1.
    I'm not in the mood to scold for any ones perspective or data missed on the web. Hell I've been there and gotten my share too.

    Why I chose these lines above to quote was to give my perspective on why I think having EV mode in earlier gen Prius was a positive thing, beside the main reason most drivers were able to benefit from it, if they learned how to pulse and glide effectively.

    I think the engineering teams at Toyota needed data from Prii on how and when owners would use what EV range was available to them so they could make EV mode more efficient with the bigger batteries in the PiP and Prime.
    In my mind it is the same or very similar to driving a Prime in HV mode and staying with the EV range of the HSI gauge. That is what most Prime drivers would call beyond useless since it can't be done while driving in any kind of traffic. It does help an owner understand how the Prime is programmed and how that programming changes when the car is exposed to different ambient conditions. And that's not something most owners have time or patients for.

    Thanks for posting the specs here. I'd like to go LiFePO4 in my "other hybrid" but I'm exposed to temps out of the current operating range in the winter. I do have external heating capability, but it's not scientific and not very efficient besides it being a real pain - specially with snow on the car and the ground.

    Yeah, 59-95* F seems like an awfully narrow recommended temperature range. Even 14-113 F limits where you can use it - especially when you consider inside temperatures dramatically exceed outside temperatures when parked in the sun. If you park for 2 hours on the hottest day of the year here (~120F) you can expect the inside temperature to reach 165 F...

    Agreed ^^ - both high and low ambient temps are (murder : quoting a post in gen 4 Technical Discussion - Power Split Device @Prodigyplace when the conversation veered in that direction _ I'd read through earlier today _ - : ) on the battery packs.
