Is it worth rebuilding a Gen2 Hybrid battery with 1/4 million miles on it?

    Hello,
I have a 2006 Prius with 225,000 miles. The hybrid battery recently died.

Doing a quick no load voltage test, it appears 5 of the 28 cells are 7.1v, or lower.

    Question to the board:
Does it make sense to rebulid the battery (selective cell replacement) with this many miles on it?

By the time I buy the battery chargers (cell charger/balancers) and replacement cells, I'll be into this about $400. I'm really questioning how long the rebuilt battery will last.

For reference, a new battery is $1960 + tax at my local dealer.
A Gen3 used battery is about $1000, locally.

    Thank You for your thoughts,
    Nico

    Gen3 sounds like it's a good deal if it's 2012+. Not really worth it if it's 2010 or 2011.

You'll need to transfer all the modules over to your gen2 case.

Reconditioning is probably not worth it if you have to buy all the equipment

Where in the US are you located:whistle:?

If you live near someone with a charger and Discharger, the costs decrease and could make this affordable and economical;).

    Keep us posted (y).
