Two methods I do are the over night soak and seems to give a streak free reading or the "pull and wait".

I pull the dipstick then wait awhile (over 5 minutes) then check again.

    Hi cosgrove,
have you ever considered drawing an oil sample and sending it to blackstone-labs for oil analysis? They might be able to tell a bit more of what's going on. And they have superb service (I dropped mine at a fedex location on Saturday and got the results via email on Monday). 28 USD + shipping, they will send you a kit for free).
I would give it a shot and make a comment so the person writing the report can put the findings into the context of your engine.

    Good luck!
