Is there a place to buy a cubby subwoofer/enclosure?

You do not need the "D".

Should I read into your response that WANTING the "D" would still be ok? Or is NOT having the "D" the better, most realistic option for me? Thanks!

Single coil has a fixed impedance. A dual coil gives you the choice of two or more impedances depending on how you wire it. If your sub matches the impedance your amp is designed for, there's no need for a dual coil subwoofer.

The reason I have the "D" is because my installer had it stock, the price was the same, my installation was very extensive and I wanted to keep my options open for later.

With hind site, all I needed was the HX 250 for my HD900/5 amp. All 5 channels are 4Ω. What you want or need is up to you.

I read in some other thread the other day about how someone had gotten a professional "write-up" on what all needed done to the Prius regarding sound deadening (a professional business that specializes in that process on cars), and I think it'd be awesome to live near such a business, cause this IS one of the noisiest vehicles I've ever owned when I'm driving back and forth all the time on the interstate. It'd be cool to drive up to a business, kick back for a few hours and read magazines and sip a drink, while SOMEONE ELSE is doing all the soundproofing on the car for me....

Call around to car stereo specialty shops. I'm sure one of them does that sort of work.

I think he's being facetious. Anyways, I like doing this myself, easy and cheap!

No, I was being serious. It's an act of God doing anything where I live regarding all my car 'customizing'....and it'd be awesome to live in a place that had a shop that JUST did that kind of thing to cars, cause that write-up was VERY extensive....so I'm sure there would be a night and day difference inside the car after a company like that did the sound deadening.

I don't really want to do the whole car, just the trunk and front door panels for music experience. I did that in my BMW and it made "some" improvement with road noise. Sorry, thought you were saying my post should have been aimed at different thread. hahah. That sucks about not having somewhere to take it, but that's what DIY is for!

Google turned up a couple places in your area (based on your profile)

Highway Sound, McDonalds Stereo, Tint & Trim.

And you're an hour away from Jacksonville FL, which has a laundry list of places that can do this work.

if you are serious, there are options all around you.

Well, it is in. It sounds great but admittedly not nearly the volume I hoped/expected. It has more volume than the self powered unit I had in the tray no doubt and plus because it is not in the tray, nearly all the rattles I had before are gone.

I did add a block of foam board to reduce my volume from ~20 liters to about ~16.

The amp is running 100-150 watts RMS less than the Hertz is rated. That could be a lot of the volume problem.

Before you ask... yes, I will finish it up this spring when it gets above 0! Not sure if I will go carpet or just gel-coat and paint.

    Glad I am nearly done!

you don't need to gel-coat it to paint it. You'd have to sand off the paint.

you'd have to sand off the black paint you used, unless that's a resin dye.

You can get it that smooth with body filler. Knock it down with a rough roloc disk, and start the filler/sanding dance.

But, just some food for thought - being in your trunk, the littlest thing will scratch and mar the paint.

Ah, I see what you are saying... no, that is not paint, that black is the fabric (fleece) that I used for the front of the enclosure.
I probably will just go with the fabric covering. It all depends on how busy/bored I am this spring summer. :)

Did you subtract the 2L displacement of the driver itself? That would bring you to 18L, pretty close to the 16L recommendation.

Good point... where did you get that number? I would figure they would include that with the stated volumes.
    [edit]
Look thought the manual posted in this thread and you are correct. 2l if speaker inside enclosure. That helps. I am still going to partition off one side from the inside which should get the volume closer to 11 liters (harder hitting bass from what I gather).

    Thanks for pointing that out!
